They certainly were.. They are good, rugged, short haul freighters, a bit old now but effective.. Almost Mover proof.

The first of the new BAe 146’s is due to be in service
Yeah right, new to you maybe, but probably older than some of the crew manning it....

Mr Philip Dunne MP, Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology, said:
"A world-class air transport force allows the RAF to deliver personnel and material around the world, swiftly and flexibly...

I note he didn't say a world class RAF transport force.. ;)

In a new state-of-the-art sorting facility, completed in 2008
Just how long does something remain new for?

CoffmanStarter 18th Apr 2013 19:28

Do they still have that delightful aroma from the bleed air ?

PFMG 18th Apr 2013 19:34

6 posts and no mention of an MPA role fit yet - come on guys

Biggus 18th Apr 2013 20:24

No doubt someone (BAE?) will suggest we convert them to MPA (after all, converting an existing airframe to an MPA is so easy...) once we pull out of sandy places and don't need them as transports any more....

After all, a fleet of 2 MPA is about the size you would expect for a third rate Air Force..!!

there's about another 20 of these and RJs sitting at Kemble waiting for a mission they could probably have for a song...

sycamore 18th Apr 2013 21:03

..tactical tankers perhaps...

Coff'

The aroma is probably a left over from their days when they carried Race Horses. It usually lasted for a couple of weeks in spite of the very "clever" liquid absorbing pallets the stalls were mounted on.

They told you racehorses but HTF did you think they kept the Base food budget in under cost and kitchen staff needing to be able to afford a sunshine holiday.

Many a person has been told to take a running jump post meal....................they weren't kidding, they knew what was in the Shepherds pie which should have been renamed Old Nag Pie.

TBM-Legend 18th Apr 2013 23:00

Actually not horses but "meat" for Tesco's...same aroma!:8

PS: What's that man doing with his hand in his pocket??:hmm:

Opsbeatch 19th Apr 2013 08:26

Looks like they came from Titan Airways being 'QC', didn't think TNT had any of those variants.

Sorry... we here in "Murika" are buying up all we can for a different kind of "tanker" role:

They are replacing all our old P-2 Neptunes, P-3 Orions, and such.

That's a bit harsh. Even Barbados has 3 MPA and they are an Air Wing! What does having 2 make you?? :}
