After all, a fleet of 2 MPA is about the size you would expect for a third rate Air Force..!!
That's a bit harsh. Even Barbados has 3 MPA and they are an Air Wing! What does having 2 make you??
Even harsher considering Luxembourg operates a two maritime patrol aircraft fleet... And last time I looked they don't even have a coast! :}

TNT did indeed mainly have QT's ("Quiet Traders", pure freighters) but also these 2 QC's (Quick Change), which were I believe previously on the Belgian register.

Only the QT's and QC's have the large side cargo door at the port rear. Only a handful of QC's were built, IIRC.

Alber Ratman 19th Apr 2013 14:34

They were both on the Belgian register.. OO-TAY and OO-TAZ I do believe were the registrations.. Worked on them both when in TNT colours. :E

Believe there were five QCs built.

They had two, which are the two the RAF bought. The UOR tender almost said 'supplier must be called TNT' but just stopped short!!

Alber Ratman 19th Apr 2013 22:33

5 built, two for sale?? Others still in QC usage like Titan? Tender written to suit circumstance, with the MoD regulations such tenders have to be drafted to..:E

Two Titan QC birds headed to Oz. One already in Sydney as of a week ago..

SFAIK a problem with 146s is the poisonous fumes in the engine bleed air which are odourless (I think) and are an identified but unrectified major health hazard to crew and passengers alike.

ISTR that there exists on PPRuNe a rather long thread discussing the fumes issue.

tucumseh 20th Apr 2013 08:04

If they do, perhaps Prince Charles could make a contribution :E

NutLoose 20th Apr 2013 10:25

Fumes? The A330 suffered from the smell of sewage in the cockpit, surprised the RAF never went down this route with the 146..

Anyone spot the flaw in the Bae cunning plan? There is not a lot of wildlife or scenery to see sitting on the ramp at 99% of airports. And I can't see many letting you go camping airside either.

Oh I don't know Nutty, wasn't the 146 once touted as having a semi-rough field capability? Plenty if small strips in Africa where you have to check there is no wildlife on the runway before landing :ok:

Stuffy 20th Apr 2013 12:08

It's a shame the RJX was cancelled.

It flew faster and higher and didn't have the engine fuel problems.

Davef68 20th Apr 2013 12:09

RP - the aforementioned Prince Charles tried to test that, didn't he.....:8

I wonder if they got any interest in that? 'Great views of the back end of hordes of animals as they disappear across the horizon, frightened by the noisy white thing that has just landed.'

Hueymeister 21st Apr 2013 10:13

We'll probably do what we did with the VC10. Leave the Kemble lot to rot, realise they're what we need, then give them to BAe to rip us off...then fly them 'til they're over 50 yrs old!

I don't know - 201 Sqn used to get away with it. No hang on that was mincing...sorry :}
