Cameron is acquitting himself rather well and with good grace.

Courtney Mil 17th Apr 2013 09:29

I thought so too, Cape.

Coffin now leaving the church to be loaded on the gun carriage - the military bearer party have taken over from the funeral directors.

alisoncc 17th Apr 2013 09:29

What rank is the regiment guy carrying the coffin? Do they now have lance corporals? I had one of them stripes for a while, 'cept it was upside down, an awfully long time ago.

Courtney Mil 17th Apr 2013 09:33

I would have said a Lance Corporal, but maybe different regiments have different names?

Courtney Mil 17th Apr 2013 09:37

Oh, I see. Did you mean the RAF Regiment chap? Yes, I think they introduced Lance Corporals about three years ago as they took on more of an infantry role.

alisoncc 17th Apr 2013 09:37

Talking about the rockape.

Corporal Carl Spence, of 9 Parachute Squadron, Royal Engineers, was serving in Afghanistan in 2008 when a mine exploded and left his colleagues injured.

The officer in command of the bearer party is Major Nicholas Mott of the Welsh Guards, who will walk behind the coffin with his brother Garrison Sergeant Major Bill Mott OBE. Both men served in the Falklands conflict.

A huge public turn out and an amazing show of support and respect. Let's hope that holds. Only goes to show just much respect there is for the Lady.

The National Anthem now as Her Majesty arrives at St Paul's Cathedral. And the crowd is singing the National Anthem!

Sharkeys mad mad world

"15. Whatever way one looks at this, for the Falklands War it seems that the Army and the RAF have firmly claimed the high ground and the seafarers and Marines are well and truly sunk! (The RAF claims to have won the air war when their squadrons hardly took part – taking no part at all in the Air to Air victory achieved by Navy Sea Harriers.)" Those will be the ones that were remotley piloted from the carriers then? The likes of Leeming, Morgan, Mortimer, Pook, Iveson, Glover etc etc were not really there then? Yes, I know some of them were GR3 mates, but other were flying SHARS.

Mr Ward sir, you are a buffoon!

diginagain 17th Apr 2013 09:58

It seems Mr Ward is trying hard to emulate someone;

As someone who wears a Veteran of HM Forces badge with pride, it is fitting that MT gets a full military funeral, for she was one of ours.

mad_jock 17th Apr 2013 10:13

Well done the Pall Bearers. Those steps must have been tough going.

Courtney Mil 17th Apr 2013 10:15

Wonderful reading by Amanda Margaret Thatcher, daughter to Mark.

Capetonian 17th Apr 2013 10:17

Agree, but somewhat incongruous that she has a US American accent, but she studies in the USA.

Courtney Mil 17th Apr 2013 10:19

Also, I suspect, because she is the daughter of Mark and his first wife, who is American.

500N 17th Apr 2013 10:33

Must say all of HM's forces look superb.

MT would have been proud.

Courtney Mil 17th Apr 2013 11:00

That was a wonderful service - well done all involved. Good, Btitish dignity.

glojo 17th Apr 2013 11:13

Seconded. Great Britain can sometimes still hold its head high..

I note that even Tony Blair when Prime Minister attended the funeral of the retired President Reagan... We show respect.
