Good. The laser reflects better off of tape than clear glass.

Hmm Following the usual protocol - it was planned by Iran - allies persuaded to invade North Korea..

500N 12th Oct 2011 02:30

" Well since the demise of OBL, Obama has gotten a taste for it."

but he wouldn't have the balls for it.

He'll leave it to Israel to do it for him.

but he wouldn't have the balls for it.
He may not, but Hillary has!

He'll leave it to Israel to do it for him.
The smartest thing the US can do in that regard is to keep Israel out of it.

500N 12th Oct 2011 05:04

But Hillary doesn't have her finger on the button so doesn't have control of the situation.

And regarding Israel, stopping Israe from retaliating against Iraq's scud's is one thing, stopping them from doing over Iran is another, especially as some other "Arab" countries wouldn't mind it happening as well but can't be seen to be supporting Israel.

Just my HO.

I was sure that it was Hillary's husband who had his finger on the button! Oh no, my mistake, it wasn't his finger it was a cigar.....:E

Hat, coat, sharp exit!

500N 12th Oct 2011 11:12

I agree.

If they wanted to bloody the nose of the Saudis, why pick to do it in the US when SA is across the water from them, a lot easier to move around etc.

.

Unchecked 12th Oct 2011 11:31

Whatever it is, it's not Britain's problem and for the sake of our armed forces, we should stay the hell out of it.

500N 12th Oct 2011 11:51

Agree, but is it that simple ?

As to why the Iranian's were going to do this, is it a case of getting two birds with one stone ? Payback for the Saudi's pissing off Iran for intervening in Bahrain and secondly, doing it in the US to get at the US.

Saudi Arabia would support Israel doing the dirty work / an Israel pre emptive on Iran because of Nuclear Weapons.

The question is, how far would it escalate and could the UK stay out of it ?

Try reading the indictment.

http://web.caller.com/2011/pdf/arbabsiar-shakuri-indictment.pdf

This guy was apparently in the US since late 70's or early 80's, attended Texas A & I university (Now part of the Texas A & M system) but did not graduate (got a degree somewhere else) was a small businessman of various successes and failures, and for one reason or another, ended up back in Iran in about 2010.

Why he'd be messing about with Mexican narco gang and cartels remains an interesting motivation, but the people who knew him in Corpus Christi, Texas, suggest one very simple motivation: money. You can read comments on him at the web site for the Corpus Christi Caller Times. (www.caller.com)

His connections in Iran?

Maybe some of those folks had other motivations.

I noticed that on the Skynews web page a bunch of idiots assert that this is a "false flag" by the CIA. Also see comments like "US has been itching to invade Iran."

Actually, no. It appears that stupidity in the UK is as common as pints in a pub.

sitigeltfel 12th Oct 2011 19:35

Any Westerner in Iran should get the hell out, pronto. The Iranians will be looking to arrest anyone they can use as a bargaining chip in advance of any reprisals by the West.

Wag the Dog (1997) - IMDb

Funny how US knew in June yet did nothing until their agents sorry "Hikers" were released by Iran for breaching Iranian border.

Navaleye 12th Oct 2011 19:56

Great opportunity to shoot the cr@p out of their off shore oil installations as a reprisal. 300 rounds of HE on Kharg Island would have the desired effect. It might even coax their mickey mouse airforce up for destruction. A T23 and a T45 should do the job very nicely.

Lonewolf_50 12th Oct 2011 20:59

racedo: you might want to read the indictment as well.

This was an FBI case being developed.

The hiker issue wasn't an FBI case ... it is not beyond possible that the usual stove pipes were in action.

I suspect no small amount of interagency friction in this matter, having nothing to do with the idiots who went hiking one fine day ... but I can see how the State Department folks would want to clean that matter up ahead of any confrontation, if the interagency communication was any good.

I tend to bet the under, on that. :p

A A Gruntpuddock 12th Oct 2011 21:53

Of course, this can't possibly have anything to do with the fact that Holder is under investigation.

Politicians and political appointees never, ever try to deflect criticism by drumming up a new scare ......

500N 12th Oct 2011 22:03

Navaleye

As much as it would be interesing, I think the US would need to have a few ducks lined up before opening up on them. Too many assets in the Gulf easily hit in retaliation.

They've done before. I spent 6 weeks charting every off shore installation for just such a joyous occasion. I would like to think that time was well spent.

You weren't part of the group that surrendered were you ?:O

What about all the military installations / assets that the Iranians have
which would be used to strike back.

Would we end up with a whole load of our and other assets sunk / burning in the gulf ?

Modern Elmo 13th Oct 2011 03:28

In Tennessee these days you gotta be careful when you talk about shots in a saloon.

Why?

Scuttled 13th Oct 2011 04:01

Navaleye 13th Oct 2011 09:06

500N,

Twas way before that! I'd have no worries about taking on their Navy. The Americans have shown that they sink very easily. Their Coastal airfields are easily covered. TLAM strikes on ports and inland airfields would make a lot of mess.

A lot of Law Enforcement sting operations get thrown out or dismissed by juries when the degree of entrapment is eventually revealed. They find some dissaffected or mentally unstable candidate who thinks and talks about doing these things, but has neither the means or method to carry them out, and then they (the Law Enforcement agency) provide both the means and the method. This case may well be different, but the political hoopla surrounding it just stinks of opportunism and exploitation by those with opaque agendas.

The FBI again thwarts its own Terror plot - FBI - Salon.com

Time and again, the FBI concocts a Terrorist attack, infiltrates Muslim communities in order to find recruits, persuades them to perpetrate the attack, supplies them with the money, weapons and know-how they need to carry it out — only to heroically jump in at the last moment, arrest the would-be perpetrators whom the FBI converted, and save a grateful nation from the plot manufactured by the FBI.

sitigeltfel - Possibly, then again they may just invade a foreign embassy and hold the western diplomats and staff hostage!;)

"Possibly, then again they may just invade a foreign embassy and hold the western diplomats and staff hostage!"

In my HO, 1979 and 2011 are two different era's. The comeback on them if they did that again would be huge, economically from all over the world.

You really think they might try that again ?

Right of course they are which means complete deniability if caught.

Regarding:

Todd’s arrest drew national media attention — fueled by the fact that he sponsored a controversial law that allows handgun carry permit holders to take guns into bars in Tennessee.

Here's a local newspaper story. If you're curious about local attitudes, take a look at the comments that follow the story. This man also used to be a Memphis policeman, or as the regional pronuniciation would have it, POE-leaseman. I myself tend to enunciate the word in that manner, unless I'm being careful about my elocution.

The Iran terror story has another angle which probably hasn't gotten much mention in the British and Eiro. news media:

The Iranian terror plot was apparently foiled and busted several months ago. Why did rat-face Eric Holder, the alleged US Attorney General ( a high, important position ) wait until this week to publicize the deed?

Perhaps because Holder is probably the ring leader of a big, grievous scandal and plot. It seems he used the Border Patrol and other gooberment agencies to smuggle a quantity of firearms to Mexican drug gangsters.

Time for Attorney General Holder to resign over Fast and Furious gun scandal? – Cafferty File - CNN.com Blogs

Time for Attorney General Holder to resign over Fast and Furious gun scandal?
FROM CNN's Jack Cafferty:

It was curious timing for the administration to announce the details of that Iranian terror plot yesterday. The news conveniently took the focus off the growing scandal surrounding Attorney General Eric Holder and the federal gun-running operation, Fast and Furious.

President Obama was reportedly briefed on this supposed terror plot back in June – but the feds chose yesterday to go public with it. When Attorney General Eric Holder was asked about being subpoenaed over Fast and Furious, he abruptly ended his news conference on the terror plot.

But terror plot or not, this story isn't going away.

Congressional investigators have issued a subpoena. They want to get their hands on communications from top Justice Department officials including Attorney General Eric Holder.

The head of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Republican Darrell Issa of California, says "it's time to know the whole truth."

Issa says holder has made "numerous statements" about the program that have "proven to be untrue." Translation: Holder's lying.

Fast and Furious allowed illegal guns to "walk" from Arizona gun stores into Mexico. ....

People over here are speculating that this Holder broke the Iran story this week to try to distract attention from his own legal troubles. Holder will probably end up have to resign. He may also be charged with perjury and with being an accessory to murder... and he holds the Attorney General job. Some turnabout.

There's another motive for the Obama regime to delay publicizing the Iran plot. Previously, the Half Blood Prince, who may be a closet Muslim himself, has gone to great lengths to try to buddy up to Iran. It's contrary to His Oness's previous behavior to give the Iran plot a lot of publicity.

Why haven't you-all over there heard more about the Fast and Furious gun running scandal? Maybe because the news media over there is mostly left wing and tends to cover up for the Obama regime. For example, I check out the guardian.co.uk web site and also bbc.co.uk. The two web sites seem to have pretty much the same editorial slant.

Me, I read Peeprune along with these other British websites to indulge a bit of personal Anglophilia.
