Apparently Timerman was an exile during the military junta that invaded the islands. He said: "I am a victim of a dictatorship, please take me more seriously." Seems to me that this Timerman guy owes the Brit military a beer. If he was an exile at the time, well if Argentina had won the war the Generals would still have their military dictatorship and he'd still be an exile. Doubtless Keesje will now make an apology for Galtieri and his right-wing thugs (I'm starting to think that Keesje's ancestors were the sort of Dutch who quickly turned over their Jewish neighbours and then joined the Waffen SS - hence his bitterness towards the UK).

A quick wik-scan indicates that it was left up to the inhabitants to decide on their status, which appears to be municipalities of The Kingdom of the Netherlands to greater or lesser degrees, and that the capital of Saba is rather amusingly named The Bottom.
So I have at least learned something today. |
I wonder if that idiot Timerman actually thinks that anyone at all is even slightly taken in by his rhetoric. I don't know which is worse, the continual banging on about colonialism or his highly reliable promises about looking after the Islanders' interests.
As for We have been trying to find a peaceful solution for 180 years Good for the Foreign Office keeping the appointment available. I trust they will not budge over the Islanders being present. |
"There is not one single country in the world which supports the right of the United Kingdom to govern over the Malvinas. Not one. |
This Timerman is almost certainly correct when he says that no country supports the right of the United Kingdom to govern over the Malvinas.
However..... I think he will find :8 most of them don't recognise the Malvinas, it is the Falkland Islands and has existed a lot longer than Argentina despite their unprovoked military armed invasion in 1982! Maybe a counter claim by the Falkland Islands on Argentina is in order, it would make about as much sense :ugh: |

There are times when I feel like using the PPRuNe Ignore function on keesje, but then I would be deprived of my regular chuckle at his comments.
I see he is still refusing to answer the questions posed of him. := |
A google search for "keesje" reveals the attached image.

Do you know, that's exactly how I imagined she looked!

Ah yes, but it also reveals this:

Well, they both look as if their grasp of geo-politics could best be described as 'tenuous'.

Video of an interview with the Falklands reps that have come 8,000 miles only to be shunned by Timerman, the man that promises to look after them.
The guy with the sign behind them is quite amusing. BBC News - Falkland Islands politicians in London for Hague talks |
The guy with the sign behind them is quite amusing. Wonder if his "mike" was connected anywhere else apart from his sphincter... |

I'm brushing up on my Dutch... Always been open to international collaboration myself. It's good to talk.
|
Dutch? Don't the Argentineans speak Spanish? Or is there a bigger force at play on this thread?

looks like it does to me, they even allocate funding to the FI... also worth noting that the Article appears to be pre-Lisbon treaty, which changed the EU's relationship with nations overseas territories.
the French, who have territories of their own they are concerned about, as do the Dutch, recognise the Falklands, and indeed the French have explicity said they would provide combat forces to either defend, or retake the Islands if asked to do so. the EU is the big stick we've got - the other LatAm countries may make the normal supportive noises, but none of them have any intention of getting into a situation where because of the FI, they are unable to trade with the EU... |
