Kinloss Nimrod MR2 Gate Guard

It appears Kinloss finally has a Gate Guard!

Forgot to say, the IPT man said today any interested parties / museums etc can make approaches to them for bits as the MR2s get cut up from next year, nominal fees apply. The major players have been in touch & a number of deals have been arranged already so 'come on down'. PM me if details req'd.

Gainesy 9th Sep 2009 15:44

Wot? More off-roading?

monkeytamer 9th Sep 2009 16:42

Nope XV240 was towed up to crash gate 3 todayn near the Kinloss to Roseisle road. It is now resting on the freshly laid concrete blocks.

Well done to all that were involved.

:ok:

camelspyyder 9th Sep 2009 16:49

Hooray!

Excellent news. Now, since it was impossible to get the jet to the main gate, is anyone looking into relocating the main gate to the aircraft??:)

Gainesy 9th Sep 2009 16:55

Hope it wasn't that freshly laid, it'll be down to the axles by closing time.:)

When is it being replaced by an MRA4?

My T Hunter 9th Sep 2009 17:06

Are you sure it isn't another one of those ever popular SLT exercises? Also I hope that there is a set of steps nearby to expedite the inevitable acqusition of spares.

Shackman 9th Sep 2009 18:08

Hope it has better luck than the Shackleton they tried to put there.

mad eng 9th Sep 2009 19:52

MGD,

As a serving member of HM forces I found myself supportive of most of your posts. Now I am out my perspective has changed. Do yourself a favour mate, get out, stop worrying so much, it's not worth it. I fully support better everything for our forces but you are changing nothing by stirring things on here. I was often asked "if you don't like it why don't you get out?" So I did. Life is so much better when you stop fighting a system that you cannot beat. I'm not having a go mate, just making an observation from the outside, I don't come home angry anymore, like I used to do most days. Loads of stuff I miss but I'm not carrying that frustration around any more.

Regards

Mad Eng

minigundiplomat 9th Sep 2009 20:12

Mad,

I obviously caught you at a bad time. Sorry mate.

Vage Rot 9th Sep 2009 20:51

Surely it MUST be possible to have got it to the main gate?

:}Only kidding Rab!!!! Well done!!:ok:

enginesuck 9th Sep 2009 22:51

After a stressful day at work theres nothing id rather do whilst gazing out of my kitchen window than to see XV240 ............. thanks a bunch! :\

Duncan D'Sorderlee 9th Sep 2009 23:49

Well done Rab!!!!!

Promotion to CAS (Scotland) is no longer in doubt ( I never doubtedt you)!

Duncan D'Sorderlee 9th Sep 2009 23:52

Wee Jock McPlop 10th Sep 2009 10:19

Okay, so who nicked the cockpit wipers!!:) I mean surely the RAF can afford a number of spare sets of wipers.....surely.:E Either that, or someone at ISK is going around with a f.. ..f great big set of wipers on their car.

enginesuck 10th Sep 2009 12:30

It would appear thats not the only thing that will be missing! lol I can see some lads beavering away on the wing as i type...

DFM 10th Sep 2009 22:07

Kinloss gate guard

Well done Rab..........and good effort.:D

betty swallox 11th Sep 2009 06:30

Agree with all of the above! Apart from the stupid, naive MRA4 post.
Well done Rab of Coastal.
She looks magic!!!

sargs 11th Sep 2009 07:15

Agree with all of the above, including MGD's post - it's called B A N T E R. Get over yourselves. Well done Rab, a fitting tribute.

Duncan D'Sorderlee 11th Sep 2009 07:42

MGD,

We can get a little tense up here at ISK - we are getting kicked in the slats from all directions and trying to stay as professional as possible; hence the bites!

I think that Rab will be long gone before there is a requirment for an MRA4 gate guard, so it will probably never happen!

PS Rab, do you not think that it would look better if it was pointing the other way :E

C'mom Betty and Mad Eng, get a sense of humour. As someone else has said it's banter, nothing more, nothing less. Life's too short to 'go off on one' over this.

betty swallox 12th Sep 2009 11:39

Oi oi. Hardly going off on one!!! I just think 240 looks magic, and there's little need for the usual prune boll*cks that ALWAYS accompanies anything Nimrod on the threads!
Have a nice day now.

getsometimein 14th Sep 2009 15:52

But how long will it be there.... Good rumours are there is a blue one waiting to take its place and XV240 will go back on the flypro...

stbd beam 17th Sep 2009 08:59

Slightly off topic: 7.45 pm fri nite at officers mess - look up and cover your ears!

alwayslookingup 19th Sep 2009 03:53

What was it?

betty swallox 19th Sep 2009 09:07

always....PIE!!!

Duncan D'Sorderlee 19th Sep 2009 11:29

On time. On target (ish - about 12' right of track!). Well done CXX.

Nimrod Parts for XV148

Hi, I am trying to source various items for the restoration of the nose of the Prototype Nimrod XV148, who would be the best contacts to see if anything can be made available during parts recovery ?
Thanks XV148

stbd beam 20th Sep 2009 20:33

Try the IPT office first, 01309 616048. If no joy try 01309 672161 & ask operator for FHQ or IPT office in ops.

I see the Nimrod on the gate at Kinloss has gone.

Does anyone know what has happened to it?

Rakshasa 28th Jun 2011 06:19

This lot may know.... ;)

Clicky

Duncan D'Sorderlee 28th Jun 2011 08:19

XV240 was removed as part of the RAF Kinloss drawdown/Nimrod disposal project. It is either waiting to be, or has been, chopped up.
