I'm sure before Brown commits, he has a chat with the Brass, who I expect tell him we can do it, but we'll be very stretched - which is sort of a standard expression by now. The BBC will visit HMS Something-or-other, where a very resolute-looking commander will tell them his entire crew are determined and up for this challenging new mission, followed by the youngest sailor on the ship, who will add something profound like 'We've got to do all we can to stop the trouble in the Middle-East'.

Join the armed forces and you are carrying out Government policy and you go WHERE the Govt tells you to, and you do WHAT the Govt tells you to do. Pontificating about Brown and the Queen changes none of that. |

The UK may be the second or third in declared military expenditure (China and Russia are hardly likely to give the correct figures, are they?) but in 2000 we were the fourth largest donor of overseas aid in the world.
Allegedly we give over £800 million in Overseas Aid to India and Pakistan and look what they can do with the cash that frees-up! They can even have a moon-shot as well as lots of shiny toys but come a natural disaster and they can't cope. No black Omega here yet; no, hold on a minute... |
