Oh are we really PM Brown...

Naval forces?

I assume he means the Marines, since a Destroyer may have problems policing the LAND border between Israel and Egypt:E

Have we actually got any spare marines at the mo?

Which Naval resources exactly? We don't have many left these days ............

Rakshasa 17th Jan 2009 16:48

Isn't St. Albans on her way to the Med? Guess they're going to be busy.

ZH875 17th Jan 2009 17:45

Better get your Ipod now, before the Navy buy the lot of them just in case they 'lose' some.:O

dallas 17th Jan 2009 18:10

I'm sure before Brown commits, he has a chat with the Brass, who I expect tell him we can do it, but we'll be very stretched - which is sort of a standard expression by now. The BBC will visit HMS Something-or-other, where a very resolute-looking commander will tell them his entire crew are determined and up for this challenging new mission, followed by the youngest sailor on the ship, who will add something profound like 'We've got to do all we can to stop the trouble in the Middle-East'.

Mind you, Israel doesn't have a history of enjoying being 'observed': Jeffrey St. Clair: When Israel Attacked the USS Liberty

Possibly but HMS St Albans is a Frigate which would be ideally suited for the job

VinRouge 17th Jan 2009 20:59

Another thumbs down to the monoculared fat scottish one.

MReyn24050 17th Jan 2009 21:38

He promised that Britain would be increasing its humanitarian aid over the next five years.
Well I expect he will get the money from the toxic bank the government is going to set up shortly.

soddim 17th Jan 2009 22:27

So here we go again - Flash Gordon saving the planet without providing any more resources to his already over-stretched forces.

A can-spend attitude with our taxes but nothing extra for defence.

NutLoose 18th Jan 2009 01:10

I felt I should do something to Honour our Glorious PM. So here it is :ok:

pr00ne 18th Jan 2009 01:44

Jeez, some people!

It's HIS Navy, you join the forces to carry out Government policy, nothing else.

You'll go where he says you will go, get over it or leave.

NutLoose 18th Jan 2009 01:53

Actually it is ours, or to be more correct The Queens, It is not his, heck he wasn't even elected to the post he holds............ Badly

pr00ne 18th Jan 2009 02:06

No it's not and it never has been. The Queen has sod all to do with it. Nobody elected HER by the way.

At the end of the day, it's your job to go where he says and when he says, if you can't handle that you shouldn't have joined.

esa-aardvark 18th Jan 2009 06:53

******e

Needs precognition. What if you joined before he did (He did'nt) ? I'd rather go with Betty indecisive tho' she is.

Kind regards

BEagle 18th Jan 2009 08:27

At the end of the day, it's your job to go where he says and when he says, if you can't handle that you shouldn't have joined.....
You can always say that you are a bit fed up of living in an organisation that has 'Medieval class distinctions', won’t let you grow your hair long, doesn’t like the fact you want to have a separate social life from the Officers Mess and have absolutely no interest in secondary duties, then jack it all in and become a civvy!

Eh, pr00ne?

pr00ne 18th Jan 2009 09:58

BEagle,

Yep, you certainly can!!!!!

esa-aardvark,

Totally irrelevant. It's not a choice you can make.He makes the calls, she doesn't, end of story.

Shack37 18th Jan 2009 10:30

You'll go where he says you will go, get over it or leave.
We've all heard the old "If you can't take a joke you shouldn't have joined" ad nauseum.

Excellent, and when sufficient numbers have taken Proone's option, someone, sometime may just realise the joke's over.

I seem to remember swearing to serve her Majesty, her heirs and successors then her elected officials - in that order!

pr00ne 18th Jan 2009 11:05

SVK,

As do I, however, the plain truth is that you may have sworn that but it is NOT what you actually do as a serving member of the armed forces.
