The BBC Strike Again!
Just who's side are the BBC on?
I've just been watching the Trooping of the Colour on the BBC in eager anticipation of seeing one of the largest RAF flypasts for many years (90th anniversary). When what do I hear? "Sorry, we're not going to cover that live, you can see it this evening"! What coverage do we get instead on the BBC website? MoD criticised for Nimrod flypast  |
I think it will be covered live on the BBC News channel. TOT for BBMF is about 1306. Or maybe one of the interactive channels. Dunno. Press that red button!
|
I understood that the flypast interfered with the tennis scheduling of the nation's public broadcaster, but I thought it was being covered on News 24.
Sky, are covering it live I think. (don't have a dish). |
The BBC News Channel will have the flypast live at 1300.

Bbc News Now Now Now!!!

It's on BBC News channel live.
Shame we had to listen to the commentators droning on ... I would have preferred to listend to the Merlins droning instead. That said, I take my hat off to the GR4 fleet - a very impressive 'diamond-15' - but what was that straggler doing on the right hand side :E |
Not bad, not bad at all. Didn't catch one bit of ****e from the commentator either, though I'm not up on the Sqn numbers these days. Well done all!
CG |
Nice to see the C-17 was from "99 Squadron at RAF Lyneham"
But at least they informed us that the E-3D was made by Boeing. |
Why no sound, apart from the 2 commentators?
Something of an amateur effort from the BBC, to be honest. Diamond 16 was damn good though. Hope 99 Sqn enjoy their move to Lyneham....:hmm: ....now back to trying to fluff up the non-event tanker drivers' strike. |
Nice one Sean. Mind you, it would have been better if you'd been outside the Palace. We would have least heard the engine noise and you wouldn't have that prat in the studio interupting you!
|
That was a great show of our aircraft. Top work to all the boys and girls that worked today to make that happen, especially the ones who got 31 Tonkas serviceable at once, not to mention reserves, that must have taken some effort!!!
|
S'alright Sean, every man and his dog will be at Brize soon!
Fair play to him though, he pushed the coverage as hard as he could. |
Sounds like a great flypast after loads of very hard work by some very hard pressed people! Well done all round.
Now, I really must get digital!! :uhoh: |
How much to bet that there won't be a serviceable aircraft on the line to take me flying on Monday after the effort today?
|
Bugger the fly-past - there's a European Soccer Championship to discuss, you know... :ugh:
|
Horrified to get home and find that some prat had said 99 was at Wootton Lynestoke - who can that have been, I wonder.
Anyroadup, on behalf of said prat, humble apols to OC 99 and all his merry men and women. I know you're really at Cranditz, or somewhere. What a perfect day for a flypast it was..... and, yes, I too would far rather have been on the ground and not in the studio - but that was the way they had to do it. Also, the plan had been to do a trailer for it between 1230 and 1240, but apparently the planners hadn't realised there was going to be another programme going out that couldn't be interrupted..... Ah well. airsound |
Chaps,
Sorry if this is the wrong place. I was under the flypast today and took a few photos I thought pprune may be interested in. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3060/...92871e4760.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3257/...fafb75b9c6.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3081/...9e8740e298.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3092/...82b1434867.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3098/...b58fa82a14.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3124/...0ae981cb04.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3026/...86eb81c1a5.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3069/...94e93842f5.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3169/...a635a6ef51.jpg Many thanks to all who took part, great to see all these over London |
On time, on target!! Looked good from my seat. Time for a beer!
|
Congrats to all involved in 'Windsor Formation', from what I could see, Whip did his job well :ok:
Tornado FR3 as it was designated by the BBC man...for what is the 'R'? |
Flypast here
|
Well done to you all
Brilliant flypast, well done to all involved.
I was involved in two flypasts with 14 Sqn in the nineties so I know how hard it is and how much pressure is involved. I say again – well done. PS: For all those that criticise the BBC, for god’s sake get a life, you really are boring. Its the news and it will never be 100% acurate. |
Had to sit way back in the sofa to stop falling off it every time the BBC came out with inaccurate or snide remarks.
|
But of course you watch the BBC and believe every other story that is not associated with aircraft.
You are sad people. |
Repeat on BBC2 right now.

To be fair he did call the F3 am F3 towards the end, no harrier though, and no reds?? I am amazed though, as many of you will be, how many serviceable Tonkas they had!! When i was at leeming they were always going tech on start up!
|
Harriers are chasing Terry T and the Sparras are over the pond.
|
Nice to see Sir Glen can get them to support a flypast with an excessive amount of ac yet getting required support to TACPs on PDT for HERRICK continues to be a challenge, even during a week day! :ugh:
Can't wait for the 90 ac flypast at RIAT i am sure the public will think we have lots of ac so why increase the defence budget!? |
SRENNAPS,
Its the news and it will never be 100% acurate |
Oh come on, Sean did his best and fer ferks sake he should know his stuff! Unfortunately he was in the hands of the BBC .....
|
Great flypast - thanks to everyone involved. I was at RAF Halton when it came over, and it was a bit special - especially that GR4 formation!!!
Resting sore feet in front of the TV tonight, I watched the BBC coverage of the trooping of the colour. The whole event was - as always - superb, inspirational and very moving, and I thought the BBC coverage was pretty good. The only bits that grated ever so slightly were the horsey sports woman telling me slightly more than I wanted to know about what the horses have for supper, and the reference to FR3s. All in all a definite well done to the BBC, for a change. One question - did I miss them or did the C130 and Kingairs get lost somewhere between London and Halton? |
I feel seen off! I thought this thread was about broadcasting house being blockaded by disillusioned journos.

150 Kts
Eyes Front,
think you'll find the overtake the main formation had at 280Kts ground speed V's 150Kts meant the BBMF and Herc formation took a different route after the Palace to prevent them from being "rear ended" (ooer missus...stand fast the Duty Navy Gay Pride attendees). It looked like everyone else in Windsor Formation did fly over Halton and then the formation dispersal really began after that....AF;) |
Obviously the BBC had limited time on air and wanted to use it for a fighting military force!
|
Need fast air.....NOW!
Remind your mates in OOA locations when they call for fast air/Rotary casevac/ Aero med....that they are not going to get a "Real Military Fighting Force"! Prat:=
|
Touchy subject eh! A little banter too much for you to handle?
|
Very surprised that nobody has commented on this complete tosh:
Graham Knight, whose son died in the crash, said: "We have gone through a three-week inquest in which the coroner said the planes were un-airworthy. "Then they fly it over the most populated part of the country. "It is like sticking two fingers up at the coroner and the MoD saying we can do what we want to do." |
One question - did I miss them or did the C130 and Kingairs get lost somewhere between London and Halton? Brian |
From a Rotary Pongo point of view I thought the Flypast was magnificent, well done to all involved including the Maintainers, Air Traffickers and Groundies in support.
