Just to add my thanks and praise to all involved. They looked great opening the Halton At Home, especially the Tornado diamond 16.
Pity we couldn't have the whole BBMF but we did get Hurricane Last of Many later. Oh, and a METS King Air later as well. I didn't know thay could do those manouevres! It was nice to have a Dakota on static display as well (not the BBMF one). He used less runway to land on Friday night than I do in a C152 but that's probably saying more about my flying than his! |

As Osby is a nav who lead the formation?
3P:ok: |
Noisy buggers woke me up (after a 5am finish the previous night, I hasten to add.)
What is it about my flat that every mall-bound formation flies more or less directly over my head? I'm going to take a leaf out of the farmers' book and paint "piss off Biggles" on the roof. :E P |

The secret is out,The Tornado FR3!
Blast, I thought we could this this under wraps for a while longer. I notice someone has mentioned the miracle of 31 Tonkas airborne at once, I have to agree. But I'm afraid its down to the new FR3 derivative, FR of course being Flypast for Royals. I believe these 31 Tonkas had been specially modded for HRHs birthday. BBC, you heard the news break here first.
P.S. Anyway, normal Tonkas arent that bad. ;) |
Why couldn't a nav lead the formation?
|
Excuse me?
|
Piggies,
In my day, a nav (WSO!) could tell it where to go, but didn't lead it - that was the role of the GIF. But then I'm now old and smell of wee ----- |
So it's not a crew aeroplane with a crew leading the formation then? Yes the pilot has his hands on the stick, but surely they both lead (sic) the formation.
|
Oh please. Tell me Piggies, did you have a Navbag or a Handbag?
|
It's not only the BBC that get it wrong! This is from the RAF's own website!

You have to admit they're very similar to the untutored eye... :E
Aren't those Buccaneers either side of that Nimrod? |

Pssst! Don't tell 'em, but my daughters are under the fond illusion (sadly encouraged by their evil father) that the RAF just laid on a massive flypast on Saturday especially for the Chesham Carnival... ...just as they did last year as well... ...nice one, folks. Very impressive. And smack overhead too!
Trooping the Colour? Never 'eard of it! |
A couple of the outgoing Station Boss returning to Marham after the flypast.

Silent Witness.
No, you're right. The RAF is only about pilots. How foolish of me:ugh: |
