So Few Air Defence Squadrons

So all we will have left will be 43 and 111 on F-3 and 3 and 11 on Typhoon? However if 11 goes somewhere sandy then only 3sq left in England?

So much for the days of 19, 92, 74, 56, 5, 11, 29, 43, 111, 25 and 23!

56 finishes next year to doesn't it?

ukmil 22nd Dec 2007 19:53

56 and 43 merge on Apr 22nd. it is not yet known if the new super sqn will be called 43, or 56, so it still may survive:ok:

I think the SNCO's will come under the "Other Ranks".

Shame there are "Seperate" do's on the Friday - I hope those ex-"Other Ranks" from National Service Days who then left to become Mayors/Councillors/Business Owners etc are treated well, unlike another Sqn anniversary bash I know of a few years ago when they were herded into the NAAFI for a few mouldy pork pies and some very loud music. One felt so strongly he dragged the Sqn Cdr out of the concurrent but very seperate OM Dinner to ask him if he was having a good time, then told him exactly why he wasn't!

Cost the Sqn a lot in terms of reputation and money, as they were all refunded. A lot of ex-members also requested their details be removed as they wanted to sever links after the fiasco.

I sincerely hope all 25 Sqn members, past and present have an excellent weekend.

XXV Disbandment

Hey,
We would love to see the other ranks, other branches, and every one else who has had an involvement with 25 over the years. The OC Supply who didn't, the OC PSF who felt the "Personal" only meant them, the OC MT who thought they were all his, the Mess Managers who felt we were an intrusion....you get the message. Now one of the things 25 was famous for in the early 90s was that we were an inclusive organisation so if you were there and enjoyed it...come back and enjoy it again.
We must see if the late Pr.... Ma....t's tree still lives in front of the OM.

XXV Disbandment

The tree never survived the day it was planted!!!

To all those concerned about the 'us and them' theme on the Friday evening, this just gets everyone in the same location in North Yorkshire. The Hangar bash on the Saturday is the main event. 'Champagne Charlie' is promising a huge evening for all, regardless of rank or trade to celebrate the passing of another fine Fighter Squadron.

Come along and join in the fun.

XXV(F) Disbanding vs F3 'Reunion'

Am I right in thinking that the first F3 reunion has been scheduled for the same day as the official ceremony to mark the closure of 25? Is this just a mistake or poor planning on the part of the reunion organiser?

11 Sqn going to the desert??? What, does the Emir need another limo gettaway driver??:E:ok:

XXV FIGHTER SQN 7th Feb 2008 12:18

Planning for the disbandment is moving at pace. For those ex-members of XXV(F) Sqn who wish to attend the Hangar Party, please contact:

RAF Leeming Ext 7806 or email

[email protected]

In addition, the Squadron is planning a ‘Friends of XXV(Fighter) Squadron Day.’ This will be held on 29 March 08, and will commence at 0930 and finish at 1500hrs. ‘Friends of XXV(Fighter) Squadron Day’ is a closed event. This means we are inviting ‘guests’ to join us at RAF Leeming. The number of visitors will be limited to 1000, and you will have a unique opportunity to celebrate the history of this famous Fighter Squadron, meet our people and to view a number of static displays of visiting aircraft. On arrival you will each receive a programme outlining the displays and also a unique book detailing the history and operational role of the Squadron.

As this is a closed event, we are not allowed to charge for admission. However, these events are expensive to run, and we also aim to raise money for Service charities – Help for Heroes and the Service Institute Fund. We are therefore asking all visitors to make a voluntary contribution of £30 per person to help to cover the cost of the XXV(Fighter) Squadron disbandment events and to allow us to make a sizeable donation to our charities; details of the Help for Heroes charity can be viewed on their website at www.helpforheroes.org.uk. The Service Institute Fund is a RAF Leeming registered charity that supports RAF Leeming personnel. If you are interested in attending this event, please follow the link below:

And follow the instructions for ticket application.

So that leaves just 100 Sqn at leeming oh and a few grobs! Used to be a very busy station when i was posted there a few years back.

Allways sad to see the passing of a Sqn and an aircraft, aleast the mighty Tornado will live on for a while longer with the remaing F3's at Leuchars and the GR Varients.

Good luck with the ceromonies:ok:

Phil_R 16th Feb 2008 09:44

Out of interest, what happens to all those F3s? Surely there's only so much need for training airframes? I assume many of them will go to the Great Hangar in the Sky only to be reincarnated as soda cans.

Boys away

The boys are currently in Oman so no-one is doing the necessary to keep this at the forefront. Let's get wired; is the M word coming? Big Phil will be there. Is anyone in touch with Cpl STUMPY from the Sqn initial formation days, never have I known a man so enamoured by trenches and landmines.
However you look at it, it is 93 years as a frontline squadron, and 19 years as an F3 outfit. If we cannot reverse the decision to disband then let us all celebrate 93 years of service. Clearly the current squadron members cannot stray beyond the guidelines of acceptability regarding what may or may not occur at the happy hour on 28th but there are a number who now take their leadership from others than GT who may lack a little control...who knows! But if you are not there how will you tell your grandchildren other than reading the story on PPrune?
The rest of the disbandment events also warrant our full support so get involved.
