Anoraks Alert

Very smart RNZAF in the circuit at a secret Typhoon base somewhere in the heart of Lincolnshire today. Should be a good one for the spotters and I did not see one.

Guess there will be a rare selection of jets this weekend.

Wycombe 9th Nov 2006 14:51

There should be 2 of them about in the UK at present I think.

Aynayda Pizaqvick 9th Nov 2006 14:53

It brought the guys over for the opening of the New Zealand war memorial in hyde park this Saturday. Think its here till early next week.

L J R 9th Nov 2006 17:01

Its actually part of a secret plan to evacuate the two Kiwis that landed the Typhoon with the Nosegear Up last year. Are they still in the brig?

Selfloading 9th Nov 2006 20:17

Ahh Kiwi's were they, well if you are going to have a flightless bird as a mascot, what can you expect.

Samuel 10th Nov 2006 02:24

Who sez kiwis can't fly?

Very smart RNZAF
Kiwis get called a lot of things in Oz, but never that. Come to think of it they call the Oz's a lot of things too, something to do with cricket and bowling. :hmm:

Smudger552 10th Nov 2006 11:41

'something to do with cricket'

Please don't mention the cricket...all very embarassing....and predictable...

This short Google video shows the 757 at Waddinton 2006 :-

Heavy Metal!! 10th Nov 2006 13:22

I've just been past Brize Norton and both RNZAF 757's are parked up on the apron near the Tristars. Bloody typical though, as soon as I was on the drive home the Polet Airways AN-124 was on final approach! :ugh:

Can it still be called an air 'Force' now that it more resembles an airline? IIRC I have a pic somewhere of a Vulcan of the RNZAF - or at least so it appears to the bemused chief after a particularly successful zap!

Yes, by chance I saw it in one of my books yesterday. Captain was Ron Dick and the cover story was they had been demonstrating the the aircraft the RNZAF for an option to buy.

Almost caused a diplomatic incident as IIRC it actually flew back to Akrotiri in the markings of a different state - false colours and all that.

Samuel 10th Nov 2006 17:16

Just for you Pontius!

....and...on the "Kiwis can fly" theme, I note yet another has joined the Red Arrows, thus continuing a long tradition of New Zealand influence.......:D

wanders of musing if there has ever been an Aussie been there and done that......

That's a superb shot of the 757 and Typhoons, is there a link I can use?

If you right click on an image and select Properties from the drop down menu a box will open with the web address. In this case that is:

Of course copyright resides with the owner which, in this case, is probably thatch

Kiwis et alia

Triggered by the piccy in item 6 (PR9??) and all the other chat re Kiwis over here; does anyone have a lead to John Hill who shared a flight with me South Cerney May 1963 who went on to fly PR9s in Malta (13Sqn?) and left to fly civvy back in NZ? (Too many subordinate clauses perhaps?)

Rossian, It's actually an RNZAF B12, flown on its last flight to storage for collection by the Indian Air Force. Pilot was one Gavin Trethewey, late of Air New Zealand, and now on the NZ warbird circuit with his own Harvard I think!

If you can provide a bit more detail on John Hill I'll see what I can do!

Ironic Really......

Ironic that the 3 Typhoons will be flown by ex-RNZAF pilots (14SQN RNZAF)who were released when the Kiwis decided to axe their own Fast jet force!

:ugh:
