Clear Right,Px Good! 2nd Sep 2006 18:12

My thoughts go out to the families of those concerned, yet again we have lost some brave people, some I may know. I have to agree with those in previous threads, leave this one for messages of condolence and stop the speculation.

My thoughts tonight are for the families and friends of those lost today.

Possibly no words can help in the immediate aftermath of this tragedy, but later, take heart that both those lost to us, and yourselves are part of a larger community, that of the aviator.

RIP guys. Wings Forever Folded.

Can not believe the very sad news. Been there, done it and now left. I remember the last tragic loss in T and the impact it had on ISK. Thoughts go to all families and next of kin and to all on the MR2 fleet.

Thoughts and deepest sympathy to all the guys at Kinloss and to the families at this difficult time.

Flying West

I hope there's a place, way up in the sky,
Where aircrew can go, when they have to die.
A place where a guy could buy a cold beer
For a friend and a comrade whose memory is dear.
A place where no doctor or lawyer could tread,
Nor a management -type would e'er be caught dead!
Just a quaint little place, kind of dark, full of smoke,
Where they like to sing loud, and love a good joke!
The kind of a place where a lady could go,
And feel safe and secure by the men she would know.

There MUST be a place where old aircrew go, when
Their wings become weary, when their airspeed gets low;
Where the whiskey is old, and the women are young,
And songs about flying and dying are sung.
Where you'd see all the fellows who'd "flown west" before,
And they'd call out your name, as you came thru the door,
Who would buy you a drink, if the thirst should be bad,
And relate to the others, "He was quite a good lad!"
And then thru the mist you'd spot an old guy
You had not seen for years, though he'd taught YOU to fly,
He'd nod his old head, and grin ear to ear,
And say, "Welcome, my son, I'm pleased you are here!
For this is the place where true flyers come,
When the battles are over, and the wars have been won;
We've come here at last, to be safe and afar,
From the government clerk, and the management czar,
Politicians and lawyers, the Feds and the noise,
Where all Hours are Happy, and these good ol' boys,
Can relax with a 'cool one', and a well deserved rest.."
"This is Heaven, my son: You've passed your last check!"

Flight is freedom in it's purest form,
to dance with the clouds which follow a storm;
to roll and glide, to wheel and spin;
To feel the joy that swells within;
To leave the earth with its troubles and fly,
And know the warmth of a clear spring sky;
Then back to earth at the end of the day,
released from the tensions which melted away.
Should my end come while I am in flight,
Whether brightest day or darkest night;
Spare me your pity and shrug off the pain,
Secure in the knowledge that I'd do it again;
For each of us is created to die,
And within me I know,
I was born to fly.

Sadly I will have lost more friends, colleagues and aquaintances today. The relatives and families of those involved should take comfort from the fact that their loved ones come from amongst some of the most dedicated, professional but also fun-loving people I have ever had the pleasure to work with. My heart and prayers are with everyone at ISK, I know it will be taken very hard.

The few and the brave

Sky news is running a story of the nimrod that has gone down in afgahnistan. My thoughts go out to the friends and family of the crew involved. I have lost good friends today. May their sacrifice not be in vain. ISK is a sadder place for the loss of these fine people.

Why is it the rags feel the need to claim victory when families grieve

You are in our thoughts.

scribbler614 2nd Sep 2006 18:55

Desperately sad news. The media row can wait for another day.
Just want to salute 14 brave people, and deepest sympathies to all those whose lives will be the poorer for their loss.

Nimrod crash in Afghanistan

I originally posted in the general section.

From an outsider looking in, this is a terribly sad day for the whole country, not just the military!

My thoughts, and the thoughts of every right thinking person in the country, go out to the families of the brave men and women who have today made the ultimate sacrifice to defend their country!

Cold comfort, but they went out doing something they loved!

So sad!

I read the same statement from our local press agency. Are the Taliban thought to have Stingers now or is Stinger a general expression for shoulder fired anti-aircraft rockets now? <confused>

Nothing yet, I don't get back up to Kinloss till Monday.

An utter tragedy for all at Kinloss. We have had an excellent flight safety record, the last Nimrod loss was at Toronto in 1995.
