First Pics (?) of GE UCAV/URAV

How did that old saying go?: "If it looks right...."::ok: |
Something familiar about that...
Is it just me or does that look far too much like a WW2 V2? After all it has got the right markings on it.
|
Is it just me or does it look a bit like a doodle-bug?
|
If you squint, you can just make out the dive-brakes.....

Hmmm....
I wonder what level of systems redundancies are built in to these infernal roboplanes? Steve Fossett's Virgin Atlantic Global Flyer only had about 15 minutes flying time available after its single generator failed, but with a human pilot at the controls was able to land safely. I doubt the same outcome would have happened had it been an unmanned aerial vehicle. Which is yet another reason why these damn things should only ever be permitted to be operated over sparsely inhabited areas. |
Good point BEagle, but there is a school of thought that says that, when compared with the current generation of fast-jet combat aircraft, the UCAV will dispense with the biggest limitation to performance and the greatest single source of errors and mistakes - the pilot! But who will get to be CAS in the future? :E If there is one?........

Try some Network54 pics from a sparsely inhabited area. They offer a better idea of size.
Janes has a bit more info on this German/Spanish venture but where does the payload fit? http://i1.tinypic.com/mt4dft.jpg http://i1.tinypic.com/mt4dnd.jpg |
