Tcas

Hope this isnt repeating a previous thread - I'm just visiting from my usual fling wing forum!

Do UK military jets carry any form of Collision avoidance system with other/civvy traffic? If not are there any plans to have it fitted in the future?

Take this for an example: TDA set up at short notice to perform Helo SAR ops. Obviously jet traffic already in the low level system would be unaware of this and may unwittingly bust the TDA. If they had a TCAS system that could recognise SAR squawks, the potentially nightmarish results could be avoided.

I appreciate that normal TCAS system would be distracting to a highly loaded pilot / pilot/nav crew, but surely all it would take is a software wizard to come up with a means of filtering out low risk targets.

The C-130J has a full TCAS II system fitted and it works a treat!!!

Great bit of kit..... everyone should have one.

I believe that the K model is also getting a form of TCAS but not so intergrated (probably an extra nav to look out!!!)

just joking K fellas before you start another battle!
