RAF Alphajet?

I recently came across a photograph of an Alphajet in European camouflage, RAF tactical roundels and bearing the serial ZJ648.

Call me behind the times, but I don't remember seeing anything about the RAF getting these aircraft.

Can anybody bring me up to date?

They certainly exist, as I found early last year on my way fro CPH to EDI.

We were 'intercepted' by one, much to the controller's chagrin, whilst taking an 'off airways' short-cut.

Interesting to see him coming on TCAS, and then beetle off to Leuchars when he realise that we were unable to 'play'

When I was at Yeovilton visiting 899NAS I had the fortune to be in the radar room with the squadron fighter controller whilst said Alpha Jet partied with the SHARs overhead, was pretty cool to watch.

Bit off topic but I like remembering! I beleive the aircraft was, as said, from Boscombe and at the time was being driven by an apparently well know American "ace", for want of a better word.

Rusty.

Some of them were delivered as non-flying spares ships, the rest were to replace the ETPS/DERA Hunters and Hawks, including LLanbedr's
