Army Flying In Oz: A good option?
Not wanting to hijack the other thread on a similar subject I started my own! With 18 months to go until I leave this mans army I need to decide on my future. I have heard a lot about transferring to the Australian Army Air Corps and this has stirred me into action. It does sound very tempting so this is a plea for help from the wise ones amongst you. As an army heli pilot with about 1300 hours on leaving would I stand a reasonable chance of transfer down under?
What is it like flying in Oz, better, worse or the same?
Pay, likely posting locations, all of this I would love to find out more about.
Any help or useful web links would be very much appreciated.

1.Yes transfer chances are good, aus army avn even sends poeple to the UK to try to poach pom pilots.
2.Cannot comment on question 2 much, weather is probably better.
3.$55K AUSD to begin with can go alot higher.
4.Townsville, Darwin bring thongs and beer, or you can go to Oakey if you can find it on a map
5.Australian Army website or Army recruiting or www.fourays.com
6.32 is not a problem.

Comments provided the kiowa pilot is pretty spot on. I know that the guy involved in lateral recruiting for the army is a PPrune member, so you will probably find he may contact you. You may be best served by asking one of our guys who transfered over to the pom army what things are like over here. We had a number of guys go over about 4-5 years ago. I suspect the grass is no greener - we certainly have issues but I am sure the aussie army can assure you of a warmer climate. You have a choice - sub tropical or tropical.
We are very short of pilots, particularly QFIs (our speak for QHIs). We are having issues with training and retention. I know of a number of laterals who are in the process of coming over or at least considering options. If you wish for contacts give me a PM.

I have a few questions. I am 32 years old and I am a senior in college and also a fixed wing pilot. I have recently looked into flying for the ADF and would like to know if my age would be a problem. In the United States, they will not except pilot applicants over the age of 27 years. Would I qualify for the ADF and if so how would I go about joining seeing that I am a US citizen. Here's another question. Would it be possible for me to fly fixed wing aircraft in the Aus Army. I have noticed that the 1st regiment has fixed wing reconnaisance aircraft. One last question. What are the age requirements for the Aus Airforce. I am almost finished with my commercial fixed wing training and was also wondering if that would help me in the pilot selection process? Thanks for any help that you can give me.

You might want to check with the U.S. Department of State. I believe automatically give up your U.S. citizenship when you accept a commission in another countries armed forces.
