RAF JFC for Gulf campaign

The Times:

.........Air Marshal Brian Burridge, 53, has been appointed the UK National Contingent Commander, responsible for about 40,000 troops. He is Deputy Commander-in-Chief of RAF Strike Command at High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, and is already on his way to Qatar, where he will link up with General Tommy Franks, the American Commander of US Central Command............ his new role will mean taking charge in Qatar of Operation Telic, the British codename for the tri-Service force committed to joining the Americans in an attack on Iraq to disarm the country of weapons of mass destruction.

The MoD also named the commanders who will serve under Air Marshal Burridge in the Gulf.

The land forces commander was confirmed as Major-General Robin Brims, 51, who has commanded 1 (UK) Armoured Division in Germany since November 2000.

The maritime component commander for Operation Telic is Rear-Admiral David Snelson, who commanded the aircraft carrier, HMS Ark Royal, for 14 months.
