Question Question for Royal Navy pilots

Hi folks,

I've recently been offered a place at BRNC Dartmouth to begin my career as a pilot in the Navy. As such, although I've read everything on the web sites, been to some RNAS visits and read articles (all as preparation for my AIB!), I was wondering if you could put down a few words to describe what your life in the Navy has been like. Good points - bad points, likes - dislikes, time spent at sea, etc.

I've also had an offer from a commercial airline for a partial sponsorship (both letter from the Navy and the airline came through on the same day!) so I’m trying to decide between the two. I started a similar thread in one of the other forums a wee while back, however I'd quite like some information/advice from those who are actually doing the job.

I'd really appreciate any replies,

Cheers

EM

BZ Monkey! I'm far too old to give you the latest on what Dartmouth is like (43) but be ready for lots of running around, cleaning kit and getting to everthing 5 minutes early (late = seriously in the ****). Give Dartmouth your best shot as life is difficult if you try and 'do it your way'. Once onto flying training things will get a lot more interesting. You need to have a strong sense of purpose/committment to get through - not just flying ability - it can be a long haul and it may not go swimmingly for you; many have a hard time getting their wings but once 'front-line' it is worth it.

Save the civvy flying career till you either get chopped, get too old, too pissed off with military life or your wife makes you!!

PS 'BZ is navy code for well done'
