Army Air Corps Update

I retired from the Corps in 1989 and have completely lost touch with what has happened within the Corps in the last 13 years (except that Apache has arrived on the scene). Would anyone out there be prepared to give me a quick update as to what has happened since Germany died a death, what aircraft are the Corps flying, are the wonderful Scouts still in service?? This is a genuine request from an ex member of the Corps and my details will be given on request on private messaging.

Hi Ken
The glorious Scout AH1 is sadly no longer in service but is often seen & heard droning around Thruxton. They are now owned privately, havent flown one recently but many happy memories from 658 and Los Malvinas. The AAC has gone through a serious transition since you left and although there are still some elements of the 'flying club' image, it has grown up and joined the real world of aviation. The Germany posting is probably the best in the Corps right now but the main postings are Dishforth in Yorkshire and Wattisham in the East. A lot of the fun tasks have now gone and the TA carry out all the good jobs that the AAC was so good at in its day.
The mighty Apache Longbow is now on the scene and despite poor and unbalanced press coverage the training and strategic plan continue to dominate the Corps.
You will be pleased to know that gems like Caldwell are still around even though the pulse is checked periodically!
Best of luck over there

Can't have this KENNYR - a thread that isn't a slanging match between the Services! Tosh! I say - disband the Corps and let the REAL aviators in light blue do the job! Go build a snowman...

fjjp, we ex army bods are really quite civilised you know. We would never, never even consider entering into a slanging match with the wavy navy or the walking sideways people. I actually believe in the "brotherhood of aviators" and feel that every one should be entitled to an opinion without being ridiculed. Anyway, nice try at getting an explosive reaction........yawn!

You NORMALLY can`t build snowmen with Canadian snow. It is real snow, frozen water in crystalline form and sticks together like dry sand. You can also walk through it without getting your feet wet and it makes a crunchy sound when you walk on it.

You can also catch up with some of the blokes at www.arsse.co.uk, similar to this but aimed at Army types. I think I know you but not certain.

Fungunz, you might say that KENNYR and I have known each other for a lifetime. My post is a standing joke between us. I have a huge amount of respect for the guy - I wish the Forces had a bucketful of his type. I have worked with people from all the Services all over the world over a long career in light blue, but have yet to meet a man who can hold a candle up to Ken.

Kennyr, haven't flown since 89, still hanker after the scout and sioux, don't know what the AAC is up to nowadays - sounds like the perfect CV for DAAvn, fill in an application form at your local MCM office

Hey Crab..etc.........NEVER, NEVER, and NEVER. I just love civilian life, but civilian flying is so boooooring. Gone are the days of 120 kts at 10 feet or the fly-in breakfasts at Celle airbase or the PX runs to various US bases in Germany. Life was really good in the old days until the Corps became mis-managed and the Apache debacle started. I am not prepared to have the labotomy to work in the Directorate. Rant over.........back to my daily glass of Glenlivet.......by for now.......Oh and PS.....To fly the Sioux was the nicest experience I have had (since Sex), you had to be a real pilot and not a button pusher.........Ken

FJJP, I'm with Ken on this one, leave the pongos alone. Stick with ME and leave the hardware with spinning roof racks to us!!
