Dambusters

In recent books, articles, etc there have been quite a few comments about Gibsons character, quite often with the benefit of hindsight and with the perspective of a 21st century person.
Guy Gibson was a man of his time and his class (ie Pre War Regular Officer).
What is more interesting is his family background, alcoholic mother who died in mysterious circumstances, father living overseas, lack of family support, in fact if it were today he would probably under the supervision of social services.
It makes what he and his comrades did whether they be Officer or NCO all the more remarkable and what debt we post war generation owe to them.

Douglas Badar similarly, a bit of a wild card as a youth. The dining room in the house where he grew up apparently still has the holes in the ceiling that he put there with a shotgun.
