RAF ALM Duties..

I'm curious to know what exactly a typical day might consist of for an RAF ALM at an operational squadron as I've heard that you may only get to do about 15 hours flying a month or so, on average.

Thanks in advance.

My last 12 month on the squadron I totalled 364 hours this covered Kosovo, Oman etc.

Stop , well one had to try , thought some of the bright sparks out there would generate a few giggles , this web sites become very boring over the past few weeks, apart from your excellent posting PMSL....... keep trucking big boy !

Tiger, my oh my, we do not have much knowledge of the RAF do we? It’s called satire ... something a few ALMs (Air Load Master) or loadies are very good at.
The ALM branch is a mainly SNCO aircrew branch comprising of a few Commissioned brothers. You cannot direct entry as an officer, were all from the same mould. We are found on Herc's Tristars, C17 ,Vc10,BBMF,Chinook,puma,EH101 .
Some say it's the premier aircrew branch, some would disagree. Myself I'm just happy being a load master employed as a Chinook Crewman.

Hope this has quenched your thirst form knowledge , if you need to know more pop into your local CIO and I’m sure they will feed you loads of bull about us all.

Dear Rude,

we all know you've got to be good to be gash, but if you want the job done well, then....you need to ask someone in a technical trade!!

Dear Rude,
Ok, I've had enough. As a few on here already know I'm all for promoting the RAF and the Aircrew branches. However I’m fed up of the Military forum being cluttered up with ALM wannabe questions. Is there not a forum for Loadie wannabe's? Ladies and gentleman please use that forum. That aside some of the dull stupid questions that are asked are beyond the wit of man. The careers office will give ages and conditions for entry into the aircrew world. The internet is littered with IQ testing questions and there's even a web site on OASC selection. Come on use your brains, think on your feet a little don't take the easy way out and post a dumb question on this forum ... please.

I will take constructive criticism on this matter, and yet again I call for this forum to be kept in the public domain please.

I was going to reply to the Judge too, but I've forgotten what my point was so I don't think I'll bother.

Cool

Dear Rude

To repond in the manner of your asking, the function of the RAF ALM when not flying is:

1. Run around putting the spokes back in the wheels that the new exec has just invented.

2. Look interested when the drivers are talking, with view to b!!!oxing their theories.

3. See how many pointless secondary duties they can avoid.

4. Eat all the biccies before the drivers wake up.

5. Complain about the dirty cups left in the sink.

6. Stack by lunch.

All in all a busy day!

You've got to be good to be gash!!

So, Tiger-Moth : That's why he phrased the question exactly like yours!
StopStart : Your last was hilarious, if somewhat too close etc!
and Gash-H.... Sorry, no slur intended.

Rude was just 'avin a laff..... so I thought I'd shoot it back at the rude crewman. Apologies to any that took offence....
