Re the equipment that folk forgot how to manufacture - couldn't we just ask our links in the former Soviet Union to (for a fee, obvs) search their records and tell us how we used to do it? I'm sure it's all recorded there somewhere.
You could help. When it needs to be tested they could use you as a target.
