SR71 Animation

Just out, a thorough animation of this amazing machine.

The level of detail is brilliant.

Still a fascinating plane designed 65 years ago that is still ahead of it's time.

My first experience of working in a wind tunnel was working with some chaps from Lockheed on the design of the intakes and the spikes for the Blackbird. The inlet cones could move fore and aft and they also expanded and contracted. Our job was to measure the shockwaves as this happened. It was a dangerous model to work on as the spike and inlet edges were like razors.

A lot of work gone into the video and very well done, congratulations in order to the gentleman. One error though, the compressor bypass tubes pick off the air at the 4th stage compressor, not the 9th and final stage as he depicts.
