RAF Fylingdales six decades of watching
Surprised no one picked up on RAF Fylingdales celebrated its 60th birthday month back and here are some photos from their social media, detailing the start of planning to build the then three golfballs, to 3 decades ago of dismantling said golfballs
and replacing it with one phased array radar today, watching for ICBm/SLBm threat and space itself.

Having been built on the impact area of an artillery range, sending the lads out with metal detectors seems to have been a sound decision. 5.5" shells still appear from time-to-time.
