RAF Hawk display pilots

I'm putting together a self-published book on UK Hawks for the type's 50th anniversary next year and one chapter will look at its display career outside the Red Arrows. I have a list of display pilots collated from various sources but there are a couple of gaps, and I know both 4 FTS and the TWUs would provide teams in the 1980s and early 1990s, as well as 100 Squadron in later years. My list so far is:

1977 Flt Lt Derek Fitzsimmon, CFS

1978 Sqn Ldr Paul Lloyd CFS

1979 and 1980 Flt Lt Phil Tolman 4 FTS

1981 Flt Lt Neil Campion

1981 Flt Lt Mike Carter, Support Command

1982 ?

1983 & 1984 Flt Lt Charlie McIlroy 4 FTS

1985 Flt Lt Brown, Valley

1986 Flt Lt Guy Bancroft Wilson, Strike Command

1986 & 1987 Flt Lt Jim Mardon Hawk CFS / 4 FTS

1988 Flt Lt Andy Wyatt

1989 Flt Lt Tim Frost 4 FTS

1988 & 1989 Flt Lt Simon Meade 7 FTS / 2 TWU

1990 Flt Lt Mark Linney RAF Valley

1990 & 1991 Flt Lt John Carter 234 Sqn / 1 TWU Brawdy

1991 Flt Lt Chris Carder 4 FTS

1992 Flt Lt Geoff Shepherd 4 FTS

1992 Flt Lt then Sqn Ldr Ian Wood 63 Sqn Chivenor

1993 Flt Lt Gerraint 'Herbie' Herbert

1994 & 1995 Flt Lt Dave Stobie 7 FTS / 2 TWU

1994 & 1995 Flt Lt Don Ritch 4 FTS

1996 Flt Lt Bill Auckland 4 FTS

1997 4 FTS ?

1998 No display

1999 No display

2000 No display

2001 Flt Lt Peter Sharpe

2002 Flt Lt Rich Hillard

2003 Flt Lt Steve Kenworthy

2004 Flt Lt Jon 'Killers' Killerby

2004 100 Squadron ?

2005 Flt Lt Philip 'Joey' Diacon 4 FTS

2005 Flt Lt Dave Harvey 100 Squadron

2006 Flt Lt Martin Pert

2007 Sqn Ldr Michael Child

2008 Flt Lt Dave Davies

2009 Flt Lt Matt Barker

2010 Flt Lt Tom Saunders

2011 Flt Lt Juliette Fleming

2012 Flt Lt Philip Bird

I'd be grateful for any gaps filled and confirmation of units. If any of these guys are on here I'd love to hear from you!

Hi Jerry
S/L (as he was then) John Thorpe (O.C Brawdy Standards sqn)
He did Biggin Hill 1979 (May) in Hawk XX198 (I think) - I do not remember if he did any other displays ?
regards LR

There are at least 7 above whom I know quite well, that I flew with, or were even my students.....i would have hoped that some of their skill and 'magic pilot dust' had rubbed off on my flying......alas not!!!

I don't kow the additional names off hand but from 2003 to about 2006, there were two each year. One each from 100 and 208 Sqns.

IIRC there wasn’t a 4FTS Display pilot in ‘82 due to the Falklands conflict. I think Glen Edge was doing the work up before it was cancelled.

Not so, I saw the solo Hawk from Valley at Church Fenton that June, there was also Strike Command solo.

I can't be sure off the top of my head but I think Dan Findlay was the very cap from 4 FTS in 1982?

1992 Flt Lt then Sqn Ldr Ian Wood 63 Sqn Chivenor
Reasonably sure he displayed in 1993 under the 19 Sqn banner, still as a flt lt, before he went to the Goblin as a sqn ldr.
