Delta 8-3 - Vulcan training.

Quick heads up about a film on Talking Pictures TV tonight at 20:25 called Delta 8-3, the program’s description is :-

Documentary from 1960 examining life at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire, focusing on the intensive training undergone by the pilots flying Vulcan delta-wing bombers and featuring rare footage of the aircraft in action.

Yes, Talking Pictures TV.

Delta 8-3 has been mentioned several times over the years on PPRuNe! A flashback to a rather more gentlemanly era too!

The shot of the OM ante-room at tea time took me back; could almost hear the ticking of that toaster!

I watched it yesterday on the TPTV streaming service, a couple of things struck me:
  • The crew all looked older than today's RAF crew (at least the ones shown on telly!), what age would they have been?
  • The Station Commander with the magnificent 'tache seemed very well upholstered.
  • Did any PPRUNE members recognise themselves or colleagues?

It was before my time on Vulcans but I do know that in the early days of the V Force they only took experienced aircrew, so that may account for the age question. By the time I got there they were taking anyone!

If I may, are any of you chaps responsible for the great teacake explosion?
Is this even true?
