Forget Alconbury, Greenham Common, Molesworth but quite a few others like Sculthorpe and Heyford might be possible.

Well, it won't be any of the old UK ones that's for sure.

Sculthorpe could be as still MOD, but cost would be astonishing given the condition its in.

No chance of Upper Heyford, as its no longer MOD, and they have started building new housing estates along Camp Rd, etc. plus lots of commercial development going on there in the old camp area.

More chance of buying back Bentwaters, as no substantial new development around that, or on it, and all the southside HAS are still there etc.

Could move the AAC out of Wattisham to somewhere, and give them that?

I have little doubt that [certainly in UK] the 'peace dividend' has resulted in a shortage of viable airbases. Remember the options available for REFORGER?

Disperse to Survive. But it will cost squllions.

... but don't you think that the USAF will bring some money with them? For example, they will need to build a new golf course, or update a current one!

Little chance of Wattisham I would have thought. Surely the main no no for UK MOD bases is that the Ynaks, for reasons best known to themselves, have a totally different electrical setup re wiggly amps and all that....

Which has now all been ripped out from MOD Woodbridge, as well as the now civilian owned Upper Heyford & Bentwaters.

Any new USAFE base in the UK would have to come from a current MOD owned site, so the septics would have to start all over again from scratch anyway, which ever one it was.

I still doubt it's a likely scenario tbh, but probably moving AAC out of Wattisham would make most sense, or moving the Regt out of Honington as the other one, as USAF would likely want a base, if they do, in the same part of the country as Lakenheath?
Has Linton been formally sold off yet?
