Where is the Royal Air Force
Well the above quote comes from the Battle of Britain film when the Luftwaffe changed tactics however it was asked by Mrs Mac this morning while gardening.
We normally get in late August / September a number of flying visits of various old war birds and BBM and Red Arrows. I have been away a bit but but she reports not seeing anything during my absence apart from regular low stuff during the week and nothing has passed by while I have been here.
It’s normally SE bound on a Sunday around 16.00 when we see them, but nothing this year which seems odd hence her and indeed my question.
Has there been a grounding or was the weather just so poor that displays were cancelled.
Mods
Please move to aircrew or other forum if this is the wrong place to ask.
Cheers

We are on the Pennines on the Yorkshire side above the Colne Valley near Slaithwaite.
The RAF are very regularly here during the week with rotary a/c and fixed wing transport and of course fast jets but normally we are visited as I say by more vintage stuff and indeed Red Arrows. I think the air displays they are returning from tend to be the likes of Southport and those in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Some years it’s been quite a procession with Red Arrows to start followed over a few hours with BBM and other privately owned war birds ie B25, Dakota, B17 and the final one for a few years was a Catalina which used to gracefully plod South and we watched with spotting scope till down over Derwent Dams as we are at 1100ft elevation. Indeed with the scope we can see A/C on climb out of East Midlands when they are on Easterly departures.
So where is the RAF then ?
Cheers

I think the Reds have finally gone up their own rectum with self importance.
The BBMF have already had their LLA day, which is generaly at the end of the display season, so they are done for the year.
B-17 is in for winter maintenance.
The tumbleweed is blowing across the old airfields into all the new houses.
The rest of the RAF are using simulators to pretend they are an air force.

More concerned it seems with Political Correctness and Wokery these days, certainly in the higher echelons of the rank structure. No doubt there are plenty of dedicated people out there in Royal Air Force Blue but it seems to get smaller year by year.
In terms of Warbirds I have seen a dramatic decrease in traffic since Shoreham. I think a combination of Shoreham leading to fewer displays, fewer display aircraft and pilots trying to avoid flying over anything means you just don't see them like you used to.
A lot of civilian display teams have called it a day.
I think there's just a general downturn in activity.

You need to move a bit south and east, we live under the flight path into Duxford that the RAFAT take to open their display, been the same for a long long time.
Plus late autumn ie this last weekend everything up in the air for a last fling before the insurance stops? I once complained about the noise but trust me Spitfires Hurricanes and the odd merlin engined buchon? On sunny Sunday afternoon with a glass of wine and as the sun drops down over the hill, watching all the GA craft depart for their various fields. We had visitors yesterday and they could not believe it….
so Mr Mac have I persuaded you to leave your beautiful Pennine country side for flatlands of Cambridgeshire?

I was not sure where to post it, as obviously some of the War Birds are privately owned, and I did ask MODS to move if appropriate.
As for RAF being further East I would say we still get the regular Airforce during weekdays it was just the missing air show associated traffic that Mrs Mac commented on.
Cheers

Thanks for the update re Duxford. It would be a bit of a long commute to the office and a tad difficult to get Munich from there in comparison where we live up here, and we would miss the view, but I do prefer your Warbirds and weather. However always a price to pay for living at height.
We too enjoyed some nice Rose outside yesterday afternoon / evening, but no warbirds just some Buzzards soaring and a Barn Owl quartering our fields looking for his Dinner - successfully I may add.
As I said on another post probably truly The Last of The Summer Wine as weather due to change.
Cheers

Being as this is JetBlast, I'm just surprised nobody has responded:
"I don't know ... Over Berlin maybe?"

Sorry we don’t get anything from that far East it’s mostly stuff rolling down the Pennies. Anyway obviously there are not going to be anymore this year unfortunately.
Thanks all for your comments everyone , but if we get buzzed by low flying RAF during the week going forward I know my wife will now blame me !
Kind regards
