The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) is looking into an incident where one of its CF-18 Hornet fighter jets displayed electronic call sign, “DICK69”, while in UK airspace.

The four letter, two number aircraft identification codes are typically assigned to pilots and do not usually change. However, this particular identifier seems to have been altered during its flight over the United Kingdom.

In response, an RCAF spokesperson mentioned they were “aware of an inappropriate and unapproved aircraft identifier that was transmitted electronically by one of our CF-18 Hornets currently deployed to the United Kingdom.

The RCAF also expressed that they anticipate all members to adhere to the “highest standard of integrity and professionalism.”

From: QLD - where drivers are yet to realise that the left lane goes to their destination too.
Correct, over the UK it should have been "KNOB69"

Imagine if Swallow69 was still used now, like it was in the 90’s by a U.K. Squadron. Obviously a sense of humour is no longer allowed - how sad.

Best I ever encountered in the Gulf, believed to have been a KC 10, SHAG 69.

Must admit I was thinking the same, how many of the potential audience would have been outraged?

Still not in the class of “Slipper1” apparently used over an extended period by a Vulcan in the US.

I don't personally have an issue with people having a bit of fun while doing their job professionally, but I can see why others are concerned here. Taxpayers are paying a lot of money for people to have very expensive training and then fly around in very expensive aircraft, and comedy callsigns (or willy contrails) aren't a great look. Every man and his dog has access to FR24 these days, so it's going to get out. I know these people are still doing their job professionally, but others will jump to the conclusion that they're just larking around at taxpayers' expense. Maybe save the high jinks for somewhere slightly less public?

It's the age old question - do you want a really good pilot who also lacks commonsense in day to day life?

Tho I think people are being a little too sensitive on this one - no-one has ever thought fighter pilots (or formula 1 drivers or footballers) of any nationality or age or time are likely Nobel Prize winners

They have different talents

I am aware of a certain lady glider pilot who announced her imminent arrival at Syerston one day with "Blowjob....5 mins ".

No prizes for guessing the tail number of the glider she was flying.

Same number displayed on the back of the trailer with "Breakfast of champions ! " underneath in dayglo....which attracted some attention on its travels around the UK.

RIP to the owner of the number who, shall we say, was a legend in the GSA.

'Swallow 69' I may have been denied entry into East Midlands airspace in 92 whilst trying to get to STANTA from NI using that callsign...

YouTube channel featured a G-IV (N269WR) with the call sign “Presidential 69.” N269WR now assigned to a G550 with the same company. Not sure if call sign remains the same. Previous G-IV now N825CP.

Slipper 1 has also been used by the Nimrod fleet, in some locations we could pick our own ATC callsign,
