As for a very good read, I recommend “Christmas Island Cracker” by AVM Wilford Oulton Operation Grapple task force commander.
Also “Sniffing and Bottling” by David Forster , and “Britain and the H bomb” by Lorna Arnold
Read together they build a amazingly detailed picture of what happened.

Crew Chief
Between 1966 and 1974.
Good morning, I am the daughter of a 543 Nav Plotter and I am trying to get in contact with any of the Crew Chiefs that worked on the Victors between 1969 and 1974 in Guam, Lima or Midway. Many thanks

Hi there, bit of a thread resurrection.
My late (d. Aug 25) grandfather was a pilot with 76 Sqn and flew sniff 2 on Grapple Z 'Burgee'.
While he was still alive, and thankfully before he completely lost all memories, we managed to claim his Nuclear Test Medal.
I've got his logs and some details about his time at Edinburgh Field/Christmas Island and would be happy to share with people interested.

You may want to post the info on the “ Aviation History and Nostalgia “ form which is located in the MISC. FORMS section

Hi Throb. My father was there also, Sniff 2 Nav on Grapple Z 'Pennant' so I'm sure they will have known each other/flown together. Simone, daughter of Joe Pasquini (76 sqn sampler) is doing a lot of work on this - if you PM me I can give you more details and put you in touch - she is very interested in log books etc and trying to keep the knowledge alive even as participants inevitably pass away with the passage of time.

ps looking at the Operational report for Grapple Z, I can see the names and times of the Burgee trial.
