F-35 headbutt over San Francisco

Long time lurker very rare poster so please forgive me if I've put this in the wrong place.

But I was strangely attracted to the idea of an f-35 making a high speed intercept from the front and the fact that the Mooney apparently turned tail immediately to go home :-)

That would have to be about the most insane, but safe, view that a GA pilot would ever have!

I know absolutely nothing other than this article and would really appreciate any thoughts comments and examples of past headbutts!

Perhaps it is `Old Joe Biden-ing `his time` that needs a `head-butt` about sending F-16s,instead of his `glad-handing`....

Hmmmm... Not sure about that.

Any thoughts about f-35's doing a good job of scaring the life out of a private pilot ?:-)

No interest in headbutts?

So I'm not sure if there aren't many people in this forum or if headbutts are not as exciting as I thought they are :-)

So I did a little research and didn't find much, but did find one article that pretty much summarizes the procedure that was apparently used in San Francisco.

Private pilot infringes POTUS airspace and is escorted out - not exactly a big deal is it?

Soon after 9/11 I expect the challenge would have been far less gentle

That's better. Those links (or rather, that link x 2) do a better job than you did in your original post or your first link, to explain the what/how/why a "headbutt" operates.

FWIW, what's behind this story might be as simple as a private pilot not having read the NOTAMS which covered that bit of airspace.

I guess it's my fault; because the media used the term, I assume that headbutt was a word that the aviation community understands. Probably should have known better, so now we all know a new term.

Yeah if this was just a normal interception, it wouldn't have caught my attention. But the idea of an f-35 filling the windshield, right in your face just before he does a pull-up, absolutely blows my mind. Keep in mind I'm a GA pilot, so this would be mind-blowing in my world. They probably should not have moved this to the military forum because this wouldn't be nearly as unusual for you guys.

And sorry about the double links, I don't post here very often...

Cheers,
M
