From past experience only about 10% of applications for any branch or trade (sorry profession) are successful, candidates fall by the wayside at the aptitude tests, interviews, medicals and even security clearances, some give up, others fail the RAFFT at selection.
2500 applications sounds about right for 250 entrants.
