Ignorance is Strength

Still no mention of 1984? Not a "future" year though

If you can imagine it, it can be. We are generations that no longer are astounded by advancements. I distinctly remember a lady turning 100 in 1976. What a time she lived in. The invention of the car, radio, the cinema, aeroplanes , rockets, medicine penicillin, two world wars, landing on the moon etc. At the time she was born all these were not even thought of in the basic community. We are somewhat blasé. When the matter transmitter is invented, well that will be nice but what took so long. I think those that could imagine and put their thought's to paper are very talented.

The MOD would do better to read Tom Clancy.
...or better still dig a little deeper into Nostradamus...he likely had it all covered...we just haven't found it yet...

Jules Verne wrote From the Earth to the Moon in in 1865

Although I agree with your sentiment. Maybe those things happened over a timespan that made them less surprising to the people they affected. A lot of things are changing in our lifetimes, but we take them in stride because they happen over several decades

Lets not forget George Orwell "1984" he may have been a bit out on the date but a lot of it was pretty close to how things seem to be panning out lately

Maybe the RAF are hoping to learn from the future and address the matter of those nasty airfields scattered all over the place, after all the ability to launch vertically from directly under the hotel swimming pool must be an asset, both in being handy and also excellent camoflague. The visiting Germans might have to nail their towels to the sun loungers though.

According to the internet: "Orwell initially named the novel 1980, and then 1982 before settling on 1984. Since it was written in 1948, some think that Orwell devised the title by inverting the year the book was written. Additionally, he thought about naming the novel The Last Man in Europe."

IMAGINATION is more important than knowledge.

For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.

Suddenly the skies turn black, as a swarm of killer robots descends on innocent bystanders.
They are a bit late. The opening scene to "Angel Has Fallen"(2019)
