The Truth Will Out!
Saw a delightful line in today's Telegraph obit of Rear-Admiral Richard Cobbold - latterly RUSI Director - who started his RN career as a Supply Officer (is that a Pusser??) who subsequently, after declining training as a Navy barrister, re-roled as an Observer. The reason stemmed from his service at Yeovilton:
Would I argue with that?????
.... he realised that the young aviators around him did less work than he did, were paid more and had more fun.
I heard it said that if Officers thought shagging their Wives was a chore....they would have Enlisted Men doing that for them.
Not to mention a Wg Cdr Ops and the Malcolm Club manageress c. 1970.
The following conversation was recounted to me by one of the participants (the one standing up without a hat on).
Sqn Ldr J** C******* : SAC Y****, you were apprehended leaving Flt Lt M****'s married quarter at 0300 hrs this morning. What do you have to say.
SAC Y**** : Sir, we are in love and she wishes to divorce her husband and we are to be married.
Sqn Ldr J** C******* : Thank you. You will be escorted to your accommodation where you will gather all your kit and taken to a Hastings leaving this morning to the UK. I understand you are Welsh. You are forthwith posted to RAF Valley, where you will spend your first 28 days on restricted privileges. And consider yourself extremely lucky.
J*** Y**** thought some time later ' I wonder exactly what he meant by 'extremely lucky'. He met the lady concerned some decades later, she had indeed been divorced, and subsequently married someone far richer and better looking that him.
