In search. Vulcan crewmates of Flt Lt Barney Barnes.

Hi all. Long time lurker, first post. Be gentle.

I have been contacted by a colleague Stateside looking for anyone who knows of or has info regarding a Flt Lt Barney Barnes, a Vulcan mate who spent time at Offutt AFB in the late 70s/early 80s, at the same time as a Sqn Ldr Adrian Sumner.
I have no other info, but figured that here would be the best place to try. If you flew/worked with him and are happy to be put in touch, please DM me.

Many thanks, all.

Chip Brunsden may know. Google him. I think he runs a boat hire company in Portugal.

Sad news I am afraid, I was recently contacted by his daughters Stephanie and Katharine, Barny passed on in mid March I believe. He was in hospital for a minor op but never recovered. Sad loss, what a character.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I never knew Barney, but I’ll raise a glass to him this weekend.

Adrian Sumner I believe was working for AD Aviation at Liverpool about 10 years ago but have since lost touch. Hope this helps.

Hello Kev, sorry I have only just looked again at this feed. Was it as long ago as that?

No, He was a Vulcan pilot and the RAF liaison at Offut for some time. And my son did a couple of flights with him with, I think, Debonair!!!

Not a pilot, Barney was a Navigator Plotter on Vulcan B2s, thence he did indeed spend a tour in Offutt AFB with Adrian Sumner.
