It helps the image when you get your first 3 medal ribbons for: Joining; Going to Class; and Staying Awake.

I was ince on a flight To Dulles (IAD) with a bunch of Annapolis cadets. They all had 3 ribbons. ho-hum, it’s their Navy, their DoD, their train-set

Am I missing something? I've enlarged the picture quite a way, and they still look like name badges.

Pretty sure that's a stock picture of civvies at a flight school, given the various standards of dress (absence of hats on desks is a red flag too), so more than likely name tags rather than medal ribbons.
