I was sent to CFS(H) after only one RW tour. It was a very steep learning curve for me. I voiced my concerns to the hierarchy and postings officer that I didn’t consider myself experienced enough to become an instructor. I instructed ab initio students for less than a year and was then posted to instruct on an OCU.
I found the QHI course a difficult one, made more stressful in my case because our five month old son suffered a chronic health issue which often kept all of us awake for much of the night.
I later became one of a relatively small number of RAF pilots, at least back then, who also did the QFI course and went on to instruct ab initio students on fixed wing. I found the CFS course much less stressful and I enjoyed it far more.
