New Role for UK Special Forces
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in event of success.
The ad has already been written for the recruitment by Shackleton a long time ago . When ships were made of wood and men made of steel .

"Honour and recognition in event of success."
regretfully, as far as many Western countries go this is no longer the case - its more
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an` Chuck him out, the brute! "
But it's " Saviour of 'is country " when the guns begin to shoot;

Seems to me that with this greater emphasis on special forces ops there will be a premium on the availability of capable tactical AT, sounds like the perfect job for the Hercules force!
How does that Hercules pick the Troops up from the ground during an Exfil?
C-130's shall be one of many aircraft types required....C-17's, C-130's, FJ's, Drones, and helicopters.

Hoodie.....apply that concept to a SF Team of say....Seven...to Twelve Folks or more.....how long would that take and how many aircraft...and how many Balloons?
Of course the Aircraft have to be modified for that Task, the ground Kit has to be delivered and assembled etc.
So don your Thnking Cap[ ....not the pointy one.

Crashed during a test flight and immediately had a catastrophic fire that consumed the aircraft....the aircraft was buried at the crash scene area.

No casualties.
Wiki:The Lockheed test crew then assessed that the computer used to command the firing of the rockets during the landing sequence needed further calibration, and elected to manually input commands.
The reverse-mounted (forward-facing) eight ASROC rockets for decelerating the aircraft's forward speed were situated in pairs on the fuselage's upper curvature behind the cockpit, and at the midpoint of each side of the fuselage beneath the uppers.
Testing had determined that the upper pairs, fired sequentially, could be ignited while still airborne (specifically, at 20 feet), but that the lower pairs could only be fired after the aircraft was on the ground, with the descent-braking rockets also firing during the sequence.
The flight engineer, blinded by the firing of the upper deceleration rockets, thought the aircraft was on the runway and fired the lower set early. The descent-braking rockets did not fire at all…….
As a result, the aircraft's forward flight was immediately reduced to nearly zero, dropping it hard to the runway and breaking the starboard wing between the third and fourth engines.
During rollout, the trailing wing ignited a fire, but a medical evacuation helicopter dispersed the flame and crash response teams extinguished the fire within eight seconds of the aircraft stopping, enabling the crew to exit the aircraft safely…..

That is REALLY frightening - and they got volunteers to try it.......... brave men
When you realize what the Mission was you can understand the reasons for the courage of all involved in that ill fated Operation.
We are blessed to have such people among us who will do that for others that they do not even know.
The good news is we still have those kinds of folks serving today.
