52 FW F-16s to Italy.

Great to see this! Should make the upcoming USAFE ADAIR program easier too.

That leaves a very big hole in Europes air defence in time of crisis.

Relocating a squadron of CJ Block 50 jets doesn't leave a big hole in NATO's air defense in a time of crisis. This has been a long time coming and offers greater benefit and flexibility.

I’m curious, why would this reshuffle make the USAFE ADAIR program easier?

Is there much information on a USAFE ADAIR program, I can’t find anything of significance on the net.

regards.

Lol, Captcha test showing railway carriages and automobiles. Which ones are the 'cars' that they want you to tick?

Incorrect - moving one squadron of F-16CJ from Spangdahlem to Aviano will make absolutely no difference.

Furthermore, keeping the KC-135Rs of 100 ARW at Mildenhall is beneficial to the RAF - especially when conducting exercises involving RAF F-35Bs with 48 FW F-15E/F-15C (and F-35A later) as seen recently.

What left the very big hole was successive closures of RAF Alconbury, RAF Bentwaters, RAF Upper Heyford. RAF Woodbridge, Bitburg AB, Hahn AB, Torrejon AB, Zweibrucken AB and withdrawal of fighters from Soesterberg, Keflavik and Ramstein over the last 25 to 30 years - along with all the HASs on those bases that would have been used for multiple reinforcement wings !

Spang is not closing

So curiously what will they put there....more than likely keep AMC terminal at a guess.

cheers

The NATO Southern Region is where the Threat Has Been since about 1989.
Sensible move.

F-16 to stay

Interesting article especially with these words „We’re committed. And by the way, it’s probably going to look like a plus-up of forces.”

Last time I saw Spang F-16 was at Dubai Air Show 2017

cheers

I am at Hahn right now and I can assure you all the HAS's are still here.

Pure politics keeping the 480th FS at SP. Poor airspace and training and dislocation of sustainment / supply chain, they should be in AV with the Buzzards and Triple Nickel.

It never made sense to close Spang. Just another Donald tantrum against Germany.

Reports are in the media that the moves from Spang to Aviano and Mildenhall to Spang are not happening.

Spang might even get more business.
