Typhoons to Leeming?
Rumours abound on Farcebook that a sqn of Typhoons is to move to Leeming from Coningsby.
Allegedly to be announced tomorrow.

There have been rumours about what is happening at Leeming for a while now.
-Tranche 1 Typhoons into aggressor role.
- Front-line Typhoon Sqn to be based there.
- Red Arrows move to Leeming.
- BBMF to move there.
- Even as unbelievable as it is; the village to get electricity and running water. (It's grim up north).
Watching and waiting with interest to see what the news brings. There is a lot of free airspace round here now in the Vale of York and I am sure the "use it or lose it" adage holds true.

I doubt the BBMF move would have been proposed. Increased transit times, crew availability issues and an interesting runway for tail-draggers; unless they plan on getting the short runway up and running.

Red Arrows to Leeming makes a lot of sense: Consolidating all the T Mk 1s at one base, the now closed Linton available as a display practise datum (away from the A1, a slightly resurgent Teesside airport, LBA while allowing Leeming to operate normally and in what is now relatively free Class G airspace) but replicating the PR value of being readily observable from a major tourist city (York) vis vis Lincoln.

Can't ever see BBMF operating out of LI full time though; with tail daggers on that single, out of wind most of the time, runway orientation?
