One mans quest to reunite lost medals
Interesting. He has a particularly hard job because US medals are almost invariably issued unnamed, although they may subsequently be privately engraved, as in the case of the Purple Heart referred to in the article. The task is generally simpler with UK medals as they are normally issued named, with the exception of WW2 campaign medals and stars, and decorations such as the MC, DFC etc. That said, reuniting medals is rarely successful. I am a member of a number of medal forums on the internet, and constantly see requests from relatives for information on the whereabouts of lost medals and I have to say these requests are more often than not unsuccessful.
