Seeking Information and guidance....

Hi all,

I am a collector of all things Tornado, currently I am making up a display of a typical Tornado Airmen’s Flying Kit, circa 1990’s, for a museum display. I am looking for some help and advice on the correct service fit of these...

I am looking to populate the MK31 Life Preserver with all of the correct items that it would have carried while in service, is there anyone who might be able and willing to give me some help with this please?
I would be really grateful for any help and information you may have...

Many thanks in advance...

Mick

Many thanks to Stitchbitch for all the help and advice!

Another quick question...

Would anyone happen to know when Velcro came in to use on Tornado Squadrons, as the new method to attach the RAF Wings, Name Badge, Squadron Crest etc..?

Many thanks,

Mick

Attaching badges with velcro pre dates Tornado Squadrons or at least the F3s. We were doing that on 43 when we had Phantoms.

Hi Tashengurt,

Many thanks, I had a feeling Velcro came in during the early 80’s but I wasn’t 100% certain, so that’s great to hear!

Cheers,

Mick

Thanks to Stichbitch for advice regarding Tornado Flying Suits, with the Mk14B being the standard issue in the 1990’s and MK15B or T being used combined with a Mk1 Immersion Suit, would anyone know when use of the Mk14/15 was discontinued?

Also would anyone happen to know which Flying Suits Tornado Aircrew would have used in the latter, post Mk14/15 and Granby years and up to retirement this year?

I am also looking for a Desert Issue Flying Suit to Display, I’m looking for some advice as to the correct Mk of Flying Suit to use, which type would be correct for Granby, Telic and Herrick/Shader Ops...

Many thanks,

Mick
