HEADS UP - Cleethorpes Armed Forces Day
Just 12 weeks to go till the Cleethorpes Armed Forces Day which will take place from Friday June 28th .to Sunday June 30th. The organisers say it is the biggest event in the Country & generally bigger than the National event.
There will be a Military parade on the Saturday with a Challenger tank, armoured vehicles & British & American WWII vehicles. On Sunday there is a full flying programme along the sea front with the Typhoon Display which will stand on it's tail & move backwards !!! It also includes a flying display of WWII aircraft
Hotels and B&B's will fill up quickly so if interested it is best to book now.

Intrigued by the Typhoon standing on it's tail and moving backwards, maybe include a demo by the fire and crash rescue mob...
I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could
*not counting Scunthorpe of course.
Not strictly true, the M180 stops some way short of Grimsby, which is not as nice as it sounds. To be entirely accurate Lincolnshire does not have a motorway at all.

Brings to mind Tony Blair's words, "Lincolnshire? What has Lincolnshire ever done for me?"
On a Squadron a few light years ago; Boss's door opens and he shouts down the corridor - 'anyone know Cleethorpes?'
I answered that I was born there (I know, never volunteer!) so was immediately given a task there to support the Inspector of Recruiting. Fly Gazelle over there, land by boating lake, then take the Mayor for a jolly round the area, a few hours of static display to drum up some new recruits and home in time to miss tea. The fact I had moved away before I was five didn't seem to be a reason not to do it.
This was 1990, and I believe was the first of what has now become a well organised and well attended 'tribute' to all the Armed Forces that puts the efforts of a lot of other places to shame. Well done Cleethorpes.

Shackman, our squadron did better as we got to get to Guernsey. 😀
Before the balance of the crew, incl me, arrived an advance party of 4 got to do the recruiting bit with a Buccaneer cockpit. Still the locals didn't realise the AEOp and FE wouldn't fit.
