Just seen on Navy Net https://www.navy-net.co.uk/community...runway.170985/ and wonder who will be the first to make the usual rejoinder....

I thought the plan was to re-align the runway so that aircraft could make a straight approach to 07 instead of a 'bent' one.

That plan has been cancelled, due to 'bent' no longer being acceptable under current LGBTQ guidelines.

But surely straight is equally divisive.

Well, there's 07 and 25 to consider, so both ends are an inclusive factor.

With MLS “straight-in” approaches are now optional.

Is that ‘straight in” to 07? Across/under LHR 09L?

Just curious, I know a bit about the airspace.

Well, 5 years living VERY close [300 yards] from the 25 threshold off West End Road does focus the mind

In theory, yes. But since I/we lived there a massive amount of new infrastructure has been built costing mega-millions. It's not a green-field site any more. I accept there's 'lumpy' ground to the west that might be excavated, but housing to the east and the 'new' biz-jet terminal would likely make it not a practical option. A couple of decades too late for that solution, sadly.

Aah, the heady days as a youngster in Eastcote watching aircraft in the Northolt circuit. That's where the aviation bug hit
