Ten Tors

Apologies if a bit off topic but many thanks to all the servicemen from all three branches involved in running this weekend's Ten Tors event. All the feedback we have had from both competitors and the general public has been nothing but praise for all for your efforts, kindness, diligence, and patience.

Many thanks again to all involved for making the event the great success it is.

That brings back memories. Did Ten Tors in 1974 as a DE Fitter at Locking. I was the Team Lead and it was the proudest moment of my then young life to bring them all in having completed the course.

Glad to see it is still alive and obviously well.

Cheers,

Thumbs up

Yes good to see it get a mention. I saw it from both sides, as team member representing our school in 1976 and as a member of a tor party for 5 years in the late 80s/early 90s (RAF Lynch and Steeperton) This included getting lost coming back from the pub on a foggy night trying to find Steeperton Tor and preparing to Bivy down for the night and loosing one of our tents on Lynch tor in high wind and having to evacuate to a local barn for the night.

A great event and I know it is something that people have done talk about it for many years later. It deserves more publicity but as it does not involve 'celebs' or does not take place in Windsor Great Park i suspect it will remain the great but quiet event it is. Long may it continue.

Thank you to all those involved.

Same here - I was involved in running the event in 1982 while holding at some early stage of training - manned a checkpoint somewhere near Okehampton. We travelled in uniform and in service vehicles, as we did in those days, and all along the motorways we were greeted with horns and waving motorists. It seemed the general public thought that anyone in the military heading towards the south west must to be off to retake the Falklands!

What Wokka said.

Our (underage) Grandson took part having seen his sister compete last time.

It is great for Grandma to know that her Grandbabies are safely monitored at all times.

Thanks again to all involved.

Took part in 85 as team leader and 4 of us got home.
I was annoyed with the 2 who binned it at the last checkpoint. We had a YTS(remember them) lad with us and he managed it.

Then in 86 I went there to swan around in a Land Rover picking up stragglers, however at about 8am on the saturday I got dicked to go on walkabouts with a RN Commander.
In fact, we had a really good time together and did about 30 miles that day, and it absolutely honked it down. We were both drenched but loved it.
He took me for a meal in a pub that evening and paid for drinks as well. I made the most of that.
Great times.
Wish I was 20 again.
