Eurofighter Typhoon exists!!!!! 
Great formation flypast of not one,
not two,
but THREE
over the office here at sunny Farnborough.
One sporting the markings of 43 Sqn! How long until the gunless wonder is in service???

My understanding was a 4-ship should have appeared. The formation would have looked better as a 'Vic' rather than a 4-ship minus number 3 but I guess No 4 wanted to get the box position sorted! Good effort with all the pressures on the programme. I do not remember a formation of aircraft at EF's current development level being displayed at F'boro previously.

Shed no tears for Typhoon (just bits of carbon fibre)
According to BBC Radio 4 this morning there is a tiny problem with the Typhoon.
The first production batch of tail assemblies is delaminating as we speak.
If they coated the carbon fibre with aluminium we would have the worlds first fighter with skin mounted chaff dispensers.

Glad to see you are alive and well!
Have the fun police tried to stop the boys and girls at Farn watching the display from the roofs again? Something about bits falling off aeroplanes or something?
Had a few comments passed my way about what a shame the big bird was not at RIAT this year.
Nice to see the Typhoo flying as a threesome though, I'll try to sneak out this week and take a peek - sadly instead of watching the display I'll be working indoors - D'Oh!
Hope all is well at sunny Farn with you, JK and the crew, and keeping fingers and toes crossed for a good first flight. Y'all drive careful now, y'hear.

Glad to report, in the finest traditions of the Flight, we have told the fun police where to stick it and can be seen most afternoons up on the roof with one of the best views of the show. Especially now they have cut down a lot of the trees!
We are even plannning a BBQ for Friday.
I'll pass on you wishes to JK and the folks.
As for the new toy, no surprises, Wast of Space have announced yet another "slip" in the program. Test flights now not until December, (but they haven't said which year!)

Four Typhoons today (official naming day, lots of Happy Hoonery) - all three UK a/c plus DA1 with tanks on.
IPA1 looked good with paint. Shame it had the Typhoon logo on the fin and not 17's gauntlet.

UK Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon will give the Eurofighter a public show of support at the Farnborough airshow today (23 July) but European aviation industry executives are showing increasing concern that the third tranche of the European combat aircraft could fall victim to budget cuts.
Up to four Eurofighter Development Aircraft will take to the skies over Farnborough during the coming week and visitors will get the chance to see the first public appearance of the first UK production aircraft – IPA1. This event will mark the official adoption of the Typhoon name for the Royal Air Force. Political leaders and air force staff from the four partner nations - UK, Germany, Italy, Spain - will also be on hand to see Hoon name the aircraft.
UK media reports earlier this month of a budget battle between the Ministry of Defence and the Treasury over the fate of the last 80 Eurofighters from the RAF order for 232 aircraft have left industrialists worried that the largest European collaborative project to build 620 aircraft could be cut back. "If the British, who have been the programme's biggest exponents, back away from the their numbers then you could expect the other partners to quickly follow suit," said one British aerospace industry executive. "Tens of thousands of jobs are at stake and the exportability of aircraft will be called into question if the Eurofighter doesn't get the multi-role capabilities being developed for the third tranche of Eurofighter."
Ministry of Defence officials refused to be drawn on the subject beyond saying that meetings were on-going to "match the ministry's recent budget settlement with its forward equipment programme". A key ministry committee was due to meet late last week to discuss UK long-term procurement plans but its decisions are still being closely guarded. The meeting was reportedly to address a projected £5 billion procurement overspend in the period 2009-2014 – the period in which the third tranche of Eurofighters are to be built – with one option understood to include using some of the 150 Joint Strike Fighters (JSFs) being bought for the RAF and Royal Navy to fulfil the strike missions envisaged for later versions of the Eurofighter..............

Typhoon in Service!
I continue to be amazed at how military projects are reported as "Safeguarding thousands of jobs in the North-West for the next 10 years" as opposed to "Delivering what the military need and want, on time and on budget". Can't recall when I last saw the latter comment actually! Typhoon - is it what we want and when we we want it? No but the jobs are safe!

Fireman Sam went rushing off to the Typhoon after it landed this afternoon, all blues and twos. Any one know the gen?
We couldn't see it, as Western Sqn hangar was in the way.
Got it sorted after 10 to 15 mins, and aircraft taxied off runway with fire escort back to the pan for shut down.
Some one suggested overheated breaks???
