Security incident at RAF Mildenhall
Police say they have been responding to reports of a "significant incident" at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk.

Well done our allies. Aim a little faulty but the thought was there.
Many years ago, Mildenhall had a 'no go' area north side where they kept the Silk Purse '135's. It was marked with a red line, 'Do not cross or you'll be shot' markings etc. Picture the scene when a civilian contractor in his van is driving along the taxiway, and gets distracted by a big jet taking off.
Thus did he stray into the no go area, triggering alarms and all sorts of mayhem. He was stopped by a security van crossing his bows and invited to step out of the van, a hand on the scruff of the neck assisted this, and then allowed to inspect the concrete with his nose pressed up against it, a boot in the back of his neck, and an M16 tapping against his right ear.......
This happened right in front of where all the spotters used to meet, so plenty of witnesses to it all. After five minutes or so, good order was restored, and he went off in his van to change his underwear.....
Ahh, the good old days........

You mean MODP - PLod ? 
As they man the front building desk...I have plenty of dealings with them from getting ones pass etc. They also go around certain areas which the enthusiasts and spotters use ...
One of my close friends - she was MOD Plod and a good shot I hasten to add. She laughingly was guarding a USN building or facility somewhere around the City.
Thankfully no damage was done nor individuals hurt...the outcome could have been a lot lot worse.
Perpetrator is in jail, but god knows what was going through his head to attempt today.

In 1998 an armed MOD policeman based at Balado near Kinross left his post and shot his wifes lover, who recovered. The policeman then committed suicide with his weapon.
Supt Warner said, "It would be fair to say some of the minor injuries were probably as a result of him being apprehended."
In the heady days of the Thor missile deployment in UK, security of the sites was regularly tested and with the missiles themselves laid horizontal on their launch cradle and often within sight of roads etc, they were quite vulnerable, even then.
Obviously, the security tests needed to be conducted within sensible limits but on one occasion, a senior RAF officer disguised as something else and carrying a pistol tried a 'stick 'um up' on an RAF policeman. Said policeman responded by attacking the intruder, disarming him and - as the enquiry delicately stated: 'ensured the intruder's ability to resist further was impaired significantly'!!
Outcome, one wg cdr in hospital, prior to no coffee interview with AOCinC and a Queen's Commendation for Brave Conduct to a national service RAFP.

Pretty good news blackout, though, with released 'details' identically bland on every news source.
All I can get is 1:00 pm incident, with local Suffolk police finally notified at 1:40 pm. No info about the perp whatsoever. If this is definitively 'not' a terrorist incident, then do we have to assume some mental aberration?

Once had the boys from Hereford act as enemy for an exercise at Binbrook. I have to say that I have never, ever, been so scared in my life, hiding behind an OM settee, in a darkened out ante room, knowing there was an SAS trooper looking for us

Trade Group 8 back ground chatter, seems to indicate that this may have been the age old problem of a USAF serviceman turning the head of a local Lady, much to the consternation of a local man, who visited Mildenhall with the intent of "interviewing" the serviceman. Unfortunately he omitted to gain permission to legally access the base and the proposed interview had not been properly sanctioned or authorised.
Lucky not to be dead, what ever happened to single well aimed shots? Back to the range for target practice for the security man involved I guess.

One does wonder who/or what the shots were fired at. Especially if there are no reports of injuries.
Following on from the Hereford comment. When I previously worked on the cross channel ferries, we were involved in a training exercise with the SBS. This being a night incursion and being off duty, my friend and I volunteered to "assist" the officer in charge by "looking out" for the assault group and providing a "heads up" when we spotted them.
As we knew the ship intimately, we thought we would have no problem finding a secluded spot and armed with decent binoculars, being able to sound the alarm when required. Needless to say, the onslaught of automatic fire and explosions proved we failed miserably in detecting them.
However our spirits were slightly raised when we realised that a number of restaurant tables had succumbed to the effect of concussion grenades and that the chippy would have a late night fixing them before passengers came on board the next day.

Did not see the Feds turn up in a squad car, draw his side arm and Start shouting. Only after a few minutes I twigged what was going on and let go of the metal plate. I think these guys were really taking the piss at it was obvious we were up to nothing sinister. I think our guard with his plaster was in on this in an attempt to frighten a pair of dumb Brits.
