Austrian Multi Role Helicopter requirement, Airbus left out

Last nights legislative election here in Austria sees Sebastian Kurz of the OVP tipped to be the new chancellor thus becoming the youngest ..leader around.

Anyhow there is a requirement here for 12 x multi role helos however Airbus feels a tad left out of the bidding process because of the ongoing dispute about Eurofighter procurement.

Austria?s rift with Airbus hampers helicopter acquisition | Jane's 360

Might the ongoing frustration with the Tiger be a factor? They appear to be choosing to upgrade/repair the Tiger, at great expense, and so perhaps are leery of another big buy?

Contract negotiations to start

The ball is started to roll with final negotiations and budget allocated

https://diepresse.com/home/innenpoli...bschrauber-auf

‘21 Alouette and ten Kiowa will be replaced by twelve light multipurpose helicopters, according to the ministry's plans. In addition, the Black Hawk fleet to be increased and bought to the existing nine Black Hawks three more, so as to achieve the international standard scale size of twelve helicopters.’

Bell 429

Well in my other neck of the woods yesterday, pair of EMS Bell 429 from Swiss Air Zermatt, (First EMS 429 European Customer back in 2013) Slovak Air Transport Europe turned up at LOAV, with Heli-Austria Flight Academy hosting. Also present was the United States Ambassador to Vienna.

https://web.helirescue.at/bundesheer...-Owy3JAQE0x7zQ

Purpose of the fly in was Marketing Sales pitch to Bundesheer for the Bell 429 as Alouette III and OH-58C Kiowa. With the other ongoing debate of the Bundesheer selling giving their Typhoons to Indonesia Due to gripes and issues with Airbus...and operational capability et al...Airbus offering of the H145M could have some affect on decision.

Cheers

H135 cabin too small- if they need to move people etc it’s not brilliant. H145 - different matter entirely - carries up to 11, great visibility, and cheap as chips. I have operated both. Love flying either one, but the 145 is miles more useful.
However, the B429 is a class apart. Solid, dependable and it’s a Bell - it will last forever - like a flying Land Rover. The plastic Airbus’ just feel like they will break, although generally they don’t.

AW16OM handed over

Today the first AW169M LUH was handed over to Bundesheer , (whole deal in co-operation with the Italian MoD, as they provide some of the initial training and support) .
