Peacetime Aerial Combat Rules
Is there anyone who is current fast jet qualified can update me on the rules? It's just that the USAF seem to be doing it right over the top of Norwich at about 5000'!!! In my day this was illegal so before I complain I would like to be updated!
I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could
There is an AIAA over south Lincolnshire and the Wash. There is an MTA over north Norfolk that overlaps part of the AIAA.
Good luck on your complaint.

At Colt it was a common occurrence to hear the f-15s playing over-head. L-mil generally had them operate down to FL100 to help Colt departures out; in reality FL40 would have been fine as the jags didn't (couldn't) get any height on for at least 20miles :-)
Why complain though? Doing no harm.
Assuming the USAF work to U.K. Rules (which are very similar to Fighting Edge) the minimum height would be 5000'. Standard airmanship dictates that you remain clear of active airfields, built up areas, cloud, controlled airspace and danger areas (unless you're booked into it).
It would seem odd to cr@p on your own doorstep in this regard since they are local and probably know better.
More importantly, were they any good?

BV, they were not very good and had to knock it off before a kill was achieved! Disappeared to the north! My concern is not the noise as I enjoy watching but they are definitely right over the top of Norwich!
In my day (70s/80s) minimum height was 10000' in UK and 5000' in RAFG with no restriction on type of airspace as long as it wasn't conrtrolled.
Anyhow, Newt, why the complaint? I thought that you were a Scottish resident.

They were just trying to join formation, over a known feature...
I'm sure the fella who planted an F-15 in a Lincolnshire field two years ago following a flat spin after mishandling during combat could tell you why it's not a good idea to carry out ACM over a city!
